Where to Buy: 64GB iPhone SE

Daughter has saved up for ages for a new phone, and wants an iPhone SE. Cash gifts from grandparents today has finally pushed her over the line, so it's time to buy.

I want to buy local stock, but MobileCiti is sold out of 64Gb models and I don't know where else to look (though Vaya is selling fot a $20 discount) other than the Apple Store.

Any suggestions? Any chances of Boxing Day discounts?

  • Get it from Apple. If you run into any issues after the first year (they have a 2 year statutory warranty) you have to go back to the place of purchase for repair/replacement. If you buy from Apple you can go to any Apple Store or use their online service for the 2nd year. Very much worth it, especially when it comes to things like the earphones stopping working in the 2nd year. Sometimes they will help you out even if you purchased it elsewhere in the 2nd year but it's at their discretion as the rules around statutory warranty state that you have to return it from your 'place of purchase'.

Avoid grey imports, local warranty with Apple gets very grey due to international models.

Yeah it might cost a little more, but you'll save yourself in headaches in the long run if something should go wrong.

Also if you buy it from Apple online/retail and she doesn't like it within the first two weeks of purchase there's a no questions asked full return and refund policy with free return shipping.

  • +2

I have heard Apple Store does a price match. Worth a try.

    • Just what I was about to say :)

Myer at Sydney CBD might have some deal, like a freebie Apple TV etc? And you get Myer points.

  • Thanks for your replies everyone.

Am now considering a Virgin phone plan - $45 pm for 24 months gets the phone, plus unlimited call/text, 2 Gb, unmetered Spotify each month.

She's currently on a Boost $20pm plan which is basically similar so we have

    (a) Outright phone $750 + $20pm plan = $1230 over two years
    (b) Phone + plan = $1080 over two years

So $150 less, but obviously at the cost of flexibility…
