Been a while since the Vita got some love from Sony.
Steins Gate remains my favourite visual novel ever. Very happy to see its sequel on sale barely a month after its release.

    • I think it's time to grab Stein's Gate!

      • +3

Be warned, it's a visual novel. If you're expecting a game you're going to be disappointed.

        • So, it's like a movie with some decision making?

        • +2

@fookos: It's more like a picture book than a movie. There isn't any direct decision making; the story progresses based on how you choose to respond to the in-game text messages.

That being said, the story is very engaging. It's one of my favorite games on the system and the only one I've bothered to platinum.

        • +1

@everyman: thanks for that. I'm going to give it a crack :)

        • @fookos: Think of it as a novel (with pictures) that has branching paths based on dialog choices and some decisions. That's visual novels in a nutshell.

As a kid, did you read any choose your own adventure books? It's like those but much longer.

If you don't like reading, it's not for you.

        • Yeah, careful. I like all video game genres except sport but tried danganronpa 2 (a visual novel) based on extreme positive feedback… yuck. Turns out that I hate visual novels.

    • Sorry which is stein gate sequel?

      • Steins gate zero. Original is amazing. Playing sequel right now and it's fantastic. Everyone should buy the first at that price.

      • I'm waiting to see if they release a physical copy over here.
Took them 6 months from USA release to release over here physically last time…
        Here's hoping.

    • What else have you played (and liked)?

      • If you are talking to me I enjoy japanese culture and games. Not sure if you like ace attorney, danganronpa or the zero escape series but they are all great. Steins gate however is my favourite. There is an anime that is almost as good as the game as well. Games are only for story and more like reading books than playing games

        • I like Zero Escape too.

From your selections it seems you play your VNs exclusively on handhelds? Have you discovered the much bigger library on PC?

  • Damn first time I've ever seen persons 4 golden for $7 from AU… but my vita is connected to my US account and isn't region free :(

    • +1

Reset it back to AU :P

    • are u sure US store don't have persona4 for around that price?

      • Currently $29.99USD on the psn store

    • I had the same issue, bought a new memory stick, created an AU account and problem solved

  • Nice price drop for Severed, down to $10.45. Been waiting to play this on Vita but didn't want to pay full price. Lots of these games are at their lowest prices! Decent sale!

  • Does anyone know where to grab a reasonably priced vita console? Spewing my old one broke and now Sony want $200 for a refurb! That's more than I paid for it originally!

Probably best look up gumtree. In WA some with 32GB card and a few games for $150 to $200.

    • +1

Cash Converters webshop typically sells 2nd hand ones for around $100-$150.

    • +2

I got lucky got mine for $150 with 64gb memory card from Gumtree recently

    • +1

Picked one up from EB games around 2 months ago. Paid $158 for wifi+3G and has 12months warranty, thought it was 3 months warranty before purchasing and was told it was 12.

      • Thanks for the advice everyone, I will check out cashies :)

Don't bother buying one, eBay a PSTV with oldest firmware on white list hack. Then play all PS vita games purchased via PSN. Tutorials everywhere on google. can't guarantee you can score one though

Do yourself a favor and get P4G if you haven't already. For this price, there's no reason not to.

It gave me a captivating experience that lasted 3 or 4 months. One I don't expect to experience again. The last time a game enchanted me this way might be FF7 almost 20 years ago. It was a once in a decade or two decade experience for me. I brought out all ranges of emotions, joy, laughter, tears and some intense moments. Made me wish I was an exchange high school student in Japan for a year. It looks so fun! You'll meet some characters who you won't want to let go of, after such a long year together.

    I can't wait for P5.

    • Have the collectors ordered for 5. Cannot wait. Problem is that these games do take so long. Great if I was younger :(

  • Anyone know if GTA Trilogy on PS3 has the ps2 version of GTA SA or remastered? Also is it better on PS4 for a extra $9-10?

    • +1

99% sure it would be the PS2 emulated version and definitely way better on PS4. They run at a native 1080p whereas PS3 is SD upscaled to 720p also each game has trophies. It's actually the best way to play San Andreas because the PS2 port (not emulated version) uses the mobile version which destroyed the tone and visuals of the game. The PS4 version simply emulates the PS2 original while running at a native full HD.

  • P4G is a must own/play. At any price its a bargain. For those who haven't experienced it and own a Vita, its an essential purchase at that price.

    • My clear time was 175 hours, though it was more closer to 200 because of saving and loading. I paid over $30 and it was great value. One of the best games I've ever played, and probably the best I've played in almost 20 years.

  • $7.55 is the cheapest ever for P4G. This game is a must own. I spent also 250 hours and probably have not completely gotten everything on the original P4. Shuffle cards and skill up personal took ages, Max social link, do all side quests etc. You want to time travel as a Japanese student. And have the urge to be there in person…

Most captivating JRPG I have played. This price is a steal and hundreds of hours of enjoyment if you are perfectionist.

I can dare say this game is better than all recent Final fantasy games from 13 to 15.

The only exception is FFX and FF12,on par with those.

    • one guy platinum'ed it on the vita and took him 1.5 years :/

i finished the game and only had 55% trophies

      • I've got a retail version (Vita game cartridge) of this title. Was enjoying it, and then it got to the turn-based combat and I had no idea what I was doing!! WTF - there's nothing to introduce you to the technique behind it. I popped it away. Would like to go back to it on account of the many devotees this game has, but need to find out more about the combat system and selections before I try - or the same will happen again!

        • Fookos

          i had no idea too

before Persona 4 i was into car simulation games, fighting games and shoot em up games

then i learned persona 4 and because of that game now i am playing Trails of cold steel 1 and 2, FF15, Shin megami series

point is the only games i play now are turn based jrpg games

once you get into it, you never look back

i might add even on easy level its hard to clock….

          It's not that hard really.

First tip though, make sure you set your companions AI to manual control, so you have full control over your party. This is a setting done in combat. When they join you, by default they will act on their own.

You use your physical attacks with ATTACK. You cast spells and abilities with SKILL I think. You scan the enemies weaknesses to see what they're strong and weak against. The types of damage are Physical, Fire (Agi), Wind (Garu), Ice (Bufu), and Elec (Zio). There's also light and dark but worry about that later.

If you hit an enemy with a type of damage they are weak against, you will knock them down and they will lose their next turn. But if you hit them when they're already down they will get back up. If you manage to get everyone down at the same time, your team will ask if you want to perform an All-Out-Attack. This will do quite considerable damage to most enemies, and is a free attack that won't use up a turn. If you end a battle with an AOA you automatically trigger Shuffle Time, where you can earn some bonuses like EXP bonus or money, or pick up some Personas.

If you're a beginner, just work on hitting enemies with their weakness.

The same rules of weakness, and knock down, applies to your team also.. Your personas will have weaknesses also, and if they are hit by them, you will be knocked down and lose a turn. So for boss fights, make sure to switch in a persona that is strong against their main element.

Collect a range of personas so that you can cover all element types. Fuse them together if you want, to create a new persona, and pass on skills from the parents so that the new persona can have more elemental attacks. In fact, I would recommend you always be fusing.

It is a very deep system and will take a little bit of learning, but once you get the hang of it, it will be easy. This is only the basics. I don't want to overwhelm you yet until you understand the basics. There is a lot more to learn later.

Another important thing to note, if your main character dies, it's game over. Other team mates can die, and you can revive them with a spell or item. But if YOU die, they cannot revive you. So be sure to protect yourself as a top priority.

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask here. I wouldn't want you to miss out on this amazing game because you didn't get the hang of it.

        • @lostn: thanks! I'm going to try it again later tonight 🤓
