Does anyone know how to change the time zones for the Amazon Echo in Australia (Sydney)? Ive followed multiple guides online and cant seem to get it working. Asking "Alexa, what is the time" gives me Seattle time. Hope someone can help me out. Thank you :)
Amazon Echo - Timezones for Australia

Creative haha
You can set the address to somewhere in Guam. Doesn't work when it's daylight savings.
I'm in the same situation, but you can always ask things like "What is the the time in Sydney, Australia", "What is the weather in Sydney, Australia", which works.
I am currently asking it for the weather in Sydney and so on but its not always accurate and tells me weather in Seattle. Thanks for the tip!
Serious question what do you guys use your Amazon echo for!
I have the Xiaomi Yeelight RGB lights and its compatible with IFTTT. Its good for facts and weather and stuff :)
Using mine to control my LIFX bulbs.
This is the guide you need.

Make sure you use this exact wording including punctuation and spaces.
It will work.
I will try this when I get home, thank so much!
Also f IFTTT, get devices with native Alexa support. So much better.
IFTTT works well for me, the xiaomi lights are cheap and they are so far good for me,
Swap them out for Philips Hue imported from Amazon U.K. They are cheap for the white bulbs and work perfectly native with Alexa. I've got my Alexa controlling the house, I had Wemo bulbs before but they required ifttt to make them work and saying trigger before using them was a pain in the ass. I just got a harmony hub to get Alexa to control my tv, Xbox etc. I use wemo and dlink switches to control lamps and LED strips. I'm building a sprinkler control system tomorrow for my pop up sprinklers with a tap solenoid and a wemo maker, which will be the only item in my home that requires ifttt. I pay for Amazon prime which gives me music streaming via Alexa and I've enabled tune in radio to listen to local stations. I'll add a nest thermostat when I do my renovations and I'm looking at somehow intergrating my electric roof windows so I can open them via voice. I have a full size Echo in the bedroom and a dot in every room hooked up to sound systems. I love these things.
That sounds glorious, one day i'll be able to do that haha, but the Xiaomi ones work well for me. Im only 16 and the budget is pretty tight haha :)
@oSkizzled: did you change the time zones?
Not yet, works been pretty busy :/
I thought WEMO switches & bulbs work with Alexa without IFTTT.
Given the WEMO bulbs are down to $16 or so, I was considering adding to my current setup which has LifX which works seamlessly with Alexa without the need of IFTTT.
Any thoughts on mixing bulb types?
@addict: wemo bulbs don't work without ifttt, only switches and light switches. Forget wemo, use Hue. They are better in every way. I have both Wemo and Hue and the only Wemo product I will ever buy again is the Maker. Also Wemo bulbs just got put out of production.
Thanks.. you say you get your bulbs imported from the UK. do you have a source you get them for cost effectively?
Cheers!
@addict: Amazon.co.uk
@thorton82: Sorry for the late reply, lifes been busy lol.
It worked! I got the time working but not the weather or location. Weather would be useful but I dont know if it is possible to change the weather for Australia yet.Again, Thank you for the link to the guide! Was really simple and easy :)
@oSkizzled: you can get the weather to work just by asking what the weather is like in 'insert placename'
@thorton82: Yeah I figured it out, it would be much better if it was natively supported.
Thanks
Wemo bulbs do work with Alexa without using IFTTT. You need to install the Wemo skill. We bought the starter kit and got them set up this week. Ended up buying more bulbs for other areas of the house and also got some LIFX on the way for areas where we want colours.
Have you tried asking Alexa to change it for you?
