Bit Coin Mining: Please Help!

Sorry to be creating a thread, but I searched for "Bit Coin" and couldn't find much.

I've been desperately looking for something productive my PC can do when I'm not using it as I leave my PC on 24/7.

I know Bit Coin Mining has been around a long time so I just wanted to know if it's still profitable to do Bit Coin Mining with regular PC hardware?

Thanks for any feedback.

Hi, no way. Not woth yiur pc.

The coins get harder and harder to mine. Not like the old days. People have dedicated hardware for this now. Its also on average not economical to mine because electrical cost is more than reward.

Back in 2000, running l0phtcrack on network passwords was all the rage at work ;) Oh, the hijinx.

  • Is there any reason to be leaving a PC on these days? You can wake PCs with wake on lan or do most of what you need with a Pi or Odroid at a fraction of the power.

I'm scared if it goes to sleep it won't wake up again.

Maybe if you're a pensioner, you shouldn't be running your PC 24/7 anyway.

Plenty of pet food samples on Ozbargain.. So no problems, 'eh?

  • Its been a while since I used to do it on my computer but usually no. You find that the the ware and tear on your computer added with the power consumption essentially ends up being higher then the amount you get from mining (last I checked).

I don't really remember getting very much when I used to do it, took me like a few days of mining (not non stop) to get enough to buy a 2 dollar Steam game code.

Usually mining is done by people who hack into multiple peoples computers and are able to mine off multiple computers at once as opposed to only a single computer.

    • Or if you have an excess of electricity (e.g solar panel)

You've missed the boat on this one sorry mate.

  • If you have a good PC, use Merito, targeted towards gamers, been hearing good things, with 12H PC on time average of 40USD a month, you don't own the coins, you just get paid on in USD, redeemed through paypal, or games or vouchers.
