  • External Memory: TF card up to 128GB (not included) - That means Micro SD for those not familiar.

I thought it said CompactFlash originally. Nearly spat out my coffee.

    • TF = Transflash I believe, which is MicroSD.

      • Thanks for repeating me.

        • Oh sorry, I misread your comment - read it as if you meant you thought Tf is compact flash.

      • +1

I always thought TransFlash and MicroSD were different, thanks for confirming that!

  • FYI:
10.1 inch IPS Touch Screen with 1920 x 1200 Resolution

    • Added to OP, thanks. Think all important pointers are there now… If I haven't missed anything else.

  • +3

Generally a good hybrid. Issues as follows
    - poor battery life, sub 6h for web/video
    - poor WiFi (driver issue?), drops out at around 40% signal strength
    - random keyboard typing issues with lid closed

(partial refund was received for above issues, $~50usd)

    • +1

thanks for helping with getting it cheaper

    • So it's not my router having an off day?

Experiencing similar wireless problems and that battery life is about on par with mine (though I expected this with the given specifications, the CPU alone uses 4-5watts), haven't experienced keyboard typing issues though.

Edit: I've been simply pressing the power button to turn the screen off before shutting the lid, works in Android and Windows… I'm unsure how this typing problem is occuring?

      • This problem, and others are not a DESIGN problem as such, more a QA/QC issue. You'll hear about all sorts of problems with these. You may get all of the problem! Or only some, or if you're lucky, none at all! =D

        • I'm unsure how the keyboard issue comes about at all though, are you simply closing the lid without pressing the power button? With mine all keyboard input is ignored when the screen is off - I have to first press the power button to wake the device.

i'm not at all surprised that it's an issue, though I don't believe it could be problematic in real-world use, unless your unit differs (settings/software wise).

        • @dyl:
It's a random combination of keyboard and touchscreen. Keypresses occur randomly when shut. I think I read some Lenovo had a similar (but rarer) problem.

Edit: For $230 it's still a good buy! But expect $230 quality =P

  • how can i make sure that this thing isnt riddled with malware?

    • +3

A quick dip in the bath should clean out most malware ;)

    • Wipe it and install Windows only from a verified source

  • Is the HiBook pro better than this?

I just got notified 8 days back that they couldn't supply my order for this exact device (sans keyboard) that I ordered 28th November. They instead recommend… a more expensive price for exactly the same thing.

    Good job GearBest!

    • You sure they weren't simply notifying that you would be supplied the z8350 model instead? I ordered the z8300 variant and was notified that I would instead receive z8350, which is an upgrade, at no extra cost. They gave me the option to accept or deny this - I happily accepted.

      • Nope… in the email:
"If there is any price difference, we will either ask you to pay it or we will refund the balance if any."

Having said that, the difference is only $4 so I'm just going to tell them that I'm happy to get the alternative if they're happy to miss out on $4.

        • I think you'll find the difference is currency conversion. The difference between this and last deal is around AU$4, though it's still US$169.99. The Australian dollar simply isn't as strong against USD currently.

Edit: $6 difference between this and last deal, I'd still assume this is the case though if it's the same tablet.

        • @dyl: You may indeed be right. I'll follow up with them.
I'm probably just grumpy because it took two weeks to hear back that they couldn't provide supply.

        • @2be8:
Actually seems they have been a little sneaky with price - I'm seeing $174.99 on one device and $169.99 on the other. Unsure why the difference…

    • Hi 2be8,

that was promotion price for Christmas,it back to US$227.79 now.
BTW,we have 145 in stock now.
Pls feel free to pm me here or email me via [email protected] if you need help.

      Have a nice weekend.

      Sunny

  • Its GPU seems to be 96~134.4 GFLOPS (depending on clock for GPU), which is excellent for a phone, not so great for a PC or console, e.g. xbox360 is 240 GFLOPS.
    http://kyokojap.myweb.hinet.net/gpu_gflops/
And 14nm process means it should be very power efficient for the performance - though the huge HD display etc will eat it up.

    Weight seems to be 522g.

    It's priced like a phone.

  • Can anyone tell me how long it takes to switch between OS's? Do you have to shut one down and then boot into the other or is it like an alt-tab thing?

    • +1

Requires reboot, though it's quite quick. Takes around 30-60 seconds.

    • +1

About 2 mins. There's an option in Android to switch OS and the same in Windows. The unit will basically shut down and reboot into the other os.

I think there's an option to ask everytime you boot it, but I just set mine to boot on the last os used

      • +1

        Just timed mine, results below:

        Windows to Android:
        Shutdown: 20s
        Boot: 55s

        Android to Windows:
        Shutdown: <5s
        Boot: ~60s

Though yeah, it isn't simply alt tabbing to Android - a full restart is required, though there is programs/buttons to automatically shutdown and reboot to the other OS.

        • Thanks for testing that.

I've just got to justify that I need one to the lovely Missus (Note: I don't).

I'd mainly be playing Android games, streaming and playing Steam games to the TV and browsing the web on the couch.

        • @Kendrite13: works well for browsing, lacks behind a little for gaming on Windows. Android gaming should work great though…

        • I know it won't play Steam (Windows) games but you can use Steam to stream the video from your (hopefully powerful) desktop to the Windows tablet plugged into your TV.

So the tablet just has to decode the video while plugged into the TV which I'm sure this could do.

        • @Kendrite13: I've seen my brother doing this on an older Nextbook 10 device (1GB RAM + older CPU), it works well on that though requires an external USB wireless AC adaptor. I assume it would work even better with the high specs of the Hi10, though still would require external wifi.

        • @dyl: Oh, shame to hear it needs a wireless AC adapter, would the built in 802.11n suffice for non-twitch type games you think?

          And thanks for the help.

        • +1

@Kendrite13: The built in adapter isn't overly good at the best of times. It'll max out my ADSL connection at closer ranges, though struggles at any kind of distances. Even at 10m through one wall it's not an ideal connection, and at 10m through 3-4 walls it's barely usable. I assume this problem would be magnitudes worse in the situation of loosely (un?) encoded video streams. Overall usable at closer distances, though I've not pushed it beyond an ADSL connection (~16mbps) - it may perform poorly even at those distances when doing more bandwidth intensive things.

  • Just picked mine up. Expedited delivery (3-7 days) was actually free not extra and i'm having it delivered to country Australia. Unfortunately the 10% off code on ozbargin didnt stack.

Price was to good to miss

    • I should've probably noted this more clearly - the fee isn't mentioned until after the order begins processing. I received an email the day after placing my order requesting I cover DHL's $30 rural fee or use an alternative posting option. I've also been told Australia Express is just as fast as DHL when posting to Australian addresses.

Nothing to worry about though - if you're in a capital city things should be fine, otherwise you may receive a message from GearBest asking what you wish to do. If that happens simply request Priority Line instead.

  • Its show $304 AUD for me so I suspect the deal is over :(

    • Just found a coupon for it:
CHUWI Hi10 Pro 2 in 1 Ultrabook Tablet PC with Keyboard
      http://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_505918.html
      price:US$194
      coupon:hi10proIT

      • Thanks for that rep. That's still~$20 more than the last 2 deals, any chance of any more units at the $174.99?

    • Marked expired. Must be sold out, promo stock was only ~80 when I last looked.

      • There are a few more units available again. Managed to get one at $174.99 it said that the are 24 more left.

        • Unexpired the deal, unsure how long before GearBest decides there's none available again though

  • has anyone tried Kodi, or even Plex with this?

    if so how was performance?

    • I've not heard of Kodi, but Plex shouldn't be a problem at all.

It quite comfortable playing mp4s in Firefox's built in player. Flash laggs a little, but I believe Plex doesn't use flash for their player.

Overall, if you want it just for watching a few TV shows in bed or something it'll easily do the job, but if you're planning on using it as a media center there's better (and cheaper) alternatives (ie chromecast/small media PC/etc).

  • delivery was delayed saying a new improved model will be delivered and wanted my confirmation. It was delayed for 10 days. I'm not if it was a tactic when they're waiting for stock.
Been using a Chuwi Hi10 Pro 2-in-1 Win 10 Tablet 4GB/64GB with Keyboard Dock from here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/275442
It's a good build, everything runs smoothly, battery is big but only last ~4hours (?) on Win10, not sure about on Android. An android pad without a key board attached is great and light. with a keyboard is heavier than a Zenbook but might add on battery time a bit.
much better than Asus Eeebook IMO, I wacked in a 128GB MicroSD EVO as extended storage. many different ports also handy.

    • The newer model features an x5-z8350 instead of 8300. No other differences. All new hi10s ship with this though, it wasn't something anyone received as compensation for delayed deliveries - that's just GearBest saying that.
