  • How fast is it

Optical Storage Read Speed 450 MB/s
Optical Storage Write Speed 400 MB/s

Slower than other competitors but a great price.

        Isn't technology amazing?
Who'd have thought they could fit 1,000 CD-RWs in such a small space.

      • Isn't that standard for SSDs ?

        • Many SSD's have reached >500 read, >450 write now, it's still a good speed however.

        • Yes, ~500MB/s is pretty much the limit of the SATA3 interface.

You'll need PCIe to go faster.

        • @doweyy: Also unless benching them, you won't notice a difference in speed between the two.

      • The advantage of these over other SSDs is durability; designed with power management and constant reading/writing in mind (3 full disk writes per day).

      • You want to be looking an IOPS more then raw speed these days unless your data is used sequentially, which most isnt.

    • It is as fast as The Cloud! That has sold it to me…

      Cloud!

Tech suggestions from substance abusers, what could go wrong?

  • +1

Put an order in just to be safe - but cancelled it. Not the best price, has gone cheaper on Amazon before & also on ebay. There is better consumer tech out there. I'd give this one a miss unless you need it for enterprise reasons.

Should also add - as far as I can tell - this is not new tech, probably about 3 years now since release.

  • Was $70 USD cheaper about a week ago apparently

although showing on camel, this is a new product with the same link of a previous discontinued product.

notice there is no reviews yet, even though the item is showing on camel X 3 available for over a year

  • its an old product gen 1 SanDisk CloudSpeed Ultra, they have released gen 2.

All the specs of this product indicate its a gen 1 still a pretty good price for 800GB but!

    • "the Ultra gen. 2 transitions from 19nm to 15nm MLC and brings a reduced endurance rating but increased performance"

      http://www.anandtech.com/show/9517/sandisk-announces-second-…

      • ???

I don't get the point to your post, this is clearly a gen 1 drive the op has posted

        • Sorry I should have commented that this gen 1 has much higher endurance which could be more important than a small gain in speed in gen 2 for some user.

Haha, customers who viewed this maid my day! ;)

Had to read AlexG's comment below to get this. Good one. Have a + to counteract the foolish negs.

and +1 from me for toastcat

        • +1 back atchya Radar cat

      • Good to see OzBargainers can have a laugh. I'll try to be a little less subtle in future.

  • These are probably 1st Gen drives. There are newer Generation Sandisk CloudSpeeds with the product code SDLF1DAM, as opposed to this deals product code SDLFOCAM. So just beware this could be the reason it is so cheap. Ridding old stock.

  • SLC reliability at MLC prices? Any reviews to confirm such bold claims? Would love to see how this SSD fairs under a real torture test

  • Who's the product aimed at?

  • What's the endurance warranty on these?

    • The Gen ii has endurance warranty of 1.8 device writes per day for 5 years. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think this would equate to 1.44TB per day for 5 years.

I'd imaging the Gen 1 would be something similar perhaps.

      • Spec sheet says 3/7 DWPD ?

  • Gen1, 2014 model but still OK for 800gb SSD

In trying to figure out what to use this item for, i checked lower down in the Amazon listing, and found that "Customers Who Viewed This Item Also Viewed

I'm guessing the URL was used for a different product . They now recycled the URL and used it on the SSD

  • Im waiting on a decent deal on an SSD to put it in an external enclosure to use as a backup for my photography while on the road. Can someone tell me what the difference is between this drive and this Crucial one previously posted on OB?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/277918

The crucial one seems like a much better deal to me, even when not on sale!! Its only 50GB less and apparently faster read/write speeds for about half the price of this one!! Can someone please explain?

    • +1

I bought this crucial MX300. It is definitely really cheap for a reasonably good performance drive.

      BUT…..there is a big but

I got occasional freezes when I first installed the drive on a fresh copy of Win 10. Then I googled "crucial mx300 win 10 freeze" and realized this was a widespread problem.

I updated the firmware but I still get the not infrequent freeze on bootup. Once it bootup, it has been fine after the firmware update.

So, I guess one freeze on occasional bootup is not too annoying. I came from a samsung evo 840 which is more pricey but it did not have a single problem since Day 1.

You get what you paid for…..(I also had the Crucial M4 which had the 5200 hours bug….bloody crucial….)

      • Thanks for the reply!

        I see, so just a brand/trust thing.
Im going to be using it in an external HD enclosure to back up photos so theoretically the "crucial mx300 win 10 freeze" bug shouldnt affect me. I think I will just wait out on another sale on these Crucial drives and pull the trigger. I cant really justify the cost of the SanDisk one for a backup drive, but if it were being used as an Internal drive I probably would.

        Thanks,

  • I have received it today. Very solid unit as the case is all aluminium.
