Mazda CX-5 New Car. Is It a Good Deal?

My friend is looking to buy CX-5 Maxx sport, Auto 2L With safety pack, mats, tint and full tank petrol on delivery for $33,500.

So the question is, is it a good deal?

Every one has their choices depending on the needs and he made one.

So what is the criteria for needing an SUV? More space, safety, option to go semi-offroad. Why do 80% of people you know not want/need these features?

        Why do you need criterion?
This thread is not about hatch vs sedan vs SUV.

Because Criterion made the most amazing DVDs available to the discerning viewer.

Their criteria for needing an SUV is obviously cause they want one. You do not need to judge what car they want and OP has not asked for opinions on the matter

Huh? Good job adding nothing to this discussion other than trying to restrain free speech and an open discussion. I didn't want your opinion either but funnily enough you found the need to add it.

So the question is, do they even need an SUV?

Many like SUV due to higher seating and not due to the off-road features. This is a personal preference.

A good 78.9% of girls I know that have a fancy hand bag could easily go about their day with a plastic bag.

      • My wife must be in the 22.1%.. She'd probably need a shopping trolley to carry around all the stuff in her bag.

    too much price.

    • Are you saying only on looking at dollar figure or looking at car and saying?

    • whats a genuine good price for it then?

      • not $33,500 apparently

        • i thought OzyBoy knew seeing they said $33k wasnt good.

        • @PVA: Spot on Michael

  • may be its more of a "want" than "need"

  • I don't think so, at least the 2.5L but it also depends what is its intended use.

    • Just like any other car. To work, to long drives.

      • Well in that case the features are probably suitable for that use case.

If the long drive is coupled with camping then the AWD 2.5L would come in handy for light off-road.

Price wise I'd say it's just average.

Most sensible answer related to the thread topic.

No Camping though. Mostly long drives.
We could have done better bargaining. This is the lowest quote we got across dealerships.

        • @danger163:
if its the lowest price then I guess its the best deal.

        • @PVA: That's the lowest we could do. so most probably go for it.

        • @danger163:
http://haggledb.com/mazda-cx-5/ says people have bought from $29000 -$33700.

what colour are they choosing, metallic paint? I think the dark metalic red is the most expensive colour.
I thought full tank and mats is pretty normal, we got them in our Civic and Xtrail without even asking. (and a big bunch of flowers for my wife).
maybe try something that doesnt cost them so much like the first paid service (10k?) is free, and you will sign straight away.

Do you need a CX5 now? Cause the new generation is coming out mid next year and it looks a million bucks and will have a few new fancy features.
IF you decide to get it before the new generation you can probably try and bargain for plate clearance + running out model.

Also have a look at http://haggledb.com/mazda-cx-5/

  • my experience is if you didn't work hard to get that price, it could probably be better. No sales guy will ever do you a good deal. If you want to pay less you will have to go to a few dealerships, make them compare prices to each other and be prepared to walk out on a few.

  • Average price as already stated, if you wait for a another week and cold call a few dealerships toward the end of the month, have your independent finance organised and say this is my price I will buy it for this. If they say no then you hang up because they have met their monthly sales target.
If they say yes have your finance ready since their finance maybe dictated by how much commission they get from x finance company.

If you are trading in yoir old car any amount you have negotiated off the price will be reflected in the trade in value. So don't do it.

  • If it helps, a friend of mine managed to negotiate a brand new 2016 VW Golf Highline 110 TSI 2017 Model with luxury, r-line, driver assistance and black pearl paint for $39,500 drive away. So I think $33,500 is a bit much. The full tank of petrol is a "perk" dealers try to use - try swap that out with something like free servicing or simply less "dealer delivery" fee (ie, their commission).

    • I think $39500 for a new Golf which isn't a GTI is a bit much. What relevance has it to a CX5 price though?

  • Can someone help, went to a Northern Sydney Mazda dealer on Monday (17 July) 90-min before close and wanted to get a new non-demo CX5 Maxx Sport 2.0 KF series and was quoted $38,585 driveaway with no extras/accessories except some mats. Said low $30k's more suitable for me and they came back with a final offer of $36,600 driveaway

They politely asked me to put a credit card on the table and to agree to buy today to offer their absolute best final price, to which I said no and that I have to think about it overnight. Their final offer was only about a 5% discount and was expecting perhaps maybe close to 15% off which is about $32,800 driveaway

Also they tried to sell a new CX5 Maxx for the funds that I had on-hand and said even then more funds are required. Initially dealt with a salesman who was new to the industry then after some back and forth out of nowhere a smooth talking retail sales manager came and sat in front of me and led the discussion while salesman sat quietly by his side

Prefer the aircon function in the Maxx Sport and also didn't like the look of the wheels of the Maxx. How much more funds would one need to add to get the Maxx Sport you think? Was surprised no accessories/extras were included even at a 5% discount. Is the KF series CX5 in high demand currently?
