Where to buy a Good Esky?

I'm in the market for a good quality Esky (hard coolers).. What size would you recommend for a family of 4 to be used for day trips? Sydney stores only..

    Costco sells a nice one.

    • I'm not a member at Costco

    • This is good but difficult to fit in some cars.

Broccoli box from the supermarket. Free! In true ozbargain style!

    • Jokes aside…

      • I used to have an esky until I bought an engel. Hardly use the esky except for fishing.

Polystyrene boxes aren't designed to be waterproof. Many will start to leak once the inside surface gets damaged. A proper cooler box helps contain leaks with their outer shell.

Put your goods in a bag, put it in the broc box.

  • I love the green and yellow ones at Bunnings - $20

  • Any reviews on Esky from BCF? I'm thinking http://www.bcf.com.au/Product/IceKool-Blue-Poly-Icebox-25L/3… which when combined with AMex offer will come down to $67.20 for 25L.

What are you gonna put in there? Even for a day trip, food / drinks / ice 25L is not a lot. I purchased this coleman from BCF last week. Used it on Friday and i'm very impressed with it. I put a bag of ice in on friday morning to cool it down, but couple hours later, there was no melting. We had 24 beers, 12 bottles water, three bottles wine, 2 bags of ice with a bit of room to spare. The handles are great, and the wheels are awesome. By the time i drained it yesterday, there was maybe 15% of the ice left, and the water was icy cold. I think it is great value for the sale price.

      • Thanks a lot.. That is the kind of review I was looking for.. My purpose is pretty similar - keeping drinks and food for day trips, or family picnics, but usage is bit less… For e.g., 6 beers, 2-3 bottles of soda/ice-tea, 2-3 bottles of water.. and some food containers..

np. my wifey has containers for everything.. it's surprising sometimes how much room they take up, even for one or two people plus the drinks and ice for a day, maybe some other things. I have one of these 36l esky, and it's great, at being stationary. Try hauling it 500m down the beach in 34° and you facepalm the sand (if you're totally unripped like me). Maybe it's worth comparing them at the shop, just fill 'em up with items off the shelf!

        • @bumblebeetuna: Thanks! I think I should go for Coleman then :)

    • way too small for most uses.

  • we bought one of these ages ago https://www.bunnings.com.au/outermark-70l-premium-ice-box-co…
70l still small to move and carry but big enough to have plenty inside. well made and ice lasts days.
