Hi there.
I just installed the Cashrewards Toolbar as I usually forget to use CR when buying online.
But how does the toolbar work.
How does it know what I am doing on sites, what does it monitor etc.
does it know if someone goes on a torrent site, browses though the lingerie in Agent Provocateur, flicks through torrent sites, checks what beer Dan Murphy has, looks for ointment for pimples on the bum etc.
Not all is shopping but does CR track it all with the toolbar.
unsure now, may uninstall it.
Cashrewards Toolbar, Any Privacy Concerns?

Hope tightarse can chime in here.
As far as I know it at a minimum injects ads into pages your looking at that are not Cashrewards so it's
probablyhighly invasive of privacy. The user presumably agrees to this when they pretended to spend 30 minutes reading a license that has all the bits you might not like hidden behind banal language and 50,000 words and pressed "I Agree".
I don't think tightarse is the correct person to be asking about this since he is an employee of Cashrewards.
We don't now need to know from the Toolbar app what site(s) you have gone to, now you have told us…
(P.S. Hope the lotion you bought is helping the "pimples". lolThe problem is much more than just Cashrewards — toolbars or browser extensions/plug-ins have full access to the web pages you are visiting and your browsing history. We Internet users basically can only have blind faith on these extension developers hoping that they are doing the right thing. Even "useful" extensions can do shady things behind your back, like Hola (use your computer as VPN exit node) or Ghostery (sell your history to advertisers).
In fact cashback sites are all advertising / marketing companies. To some extend OzBargain is funded by ads revenue as well! The cashback sites know all your purchase history — what did you buy, when did you buy, where did you purchase from and how much you spent. You might want to check the terms and conditions on what they can/cannot do with that info, as these can be some treasured data to other marketing companies. If you are really concerning about privacy, then you should have ad blockers on all the time, or better still — not use the Internet at all. I am just a mere mortal and I can't be bothered…
Disclaimer: OzBargain only collects your email address, your IP address (for sockpuppet/ghost account detection) and the content you posted. These are never passed onto 3rd party. However we also use Google Analytics (to analyse our traffic) and DoubleClick + Google AdX (for ads). Your browsing history on OzBargain might leak to other places via these Google services. If this is undesirable, please use an ad blocker.
Yeah, I realise they are tracking my purchases, but that's only when I choose and go through the CR site. A trade off for some extra dollars. It can't track if I don't go through their site and it would only be for sites they have a relationship with ( I assume).
The toolbar, though, is there all the time so is it tracking everything I look at, like I jokingly mentioned, torrents, porn, shopping I don't want CR involved, political sites etc.
I have found zero detail in their site about this for the toolbar.Btw, I don't use an ad blocker as I take it as my little way of paying the site back for their service, like your site, if an ad pops up that I'm interested in I click on it (sometimes).
If you're that worried about CashRewards extension, maybe use ghostery as well, or just remember to click through CR website instead?
Google probably knows my life better than me…Read above about Ghostery.
looks for ointment for pimples on the bum.
