[RESOLVED] Ripped off on eBay. Want to track down the seller to name and shame.

Mod: OP was refunded.

So I purchased a Macbook for parts on eBay for $220 all up including postage. 4 days after payment was made the seller marked item as posted so I waited for the item to arrive. A bit after one week, when it didn't arrive, I contacted the seller via email. After giving him/her one day to respond, I then placed a dispute on eBay when no reply was received. The dispute is now in the process of being resolved by eBay so hopefully I wont have a problem getting my money back.

What's interesting is that looking back on this persons feedback, he/she has done this to 3 other people over the space of about 2 years. I would not have purchased the item had i known they had negative feedback, but in the eBay app, his feedback showed up as 100% as it does not factor in feedback received over 12 months ago.

To make things more interesting, this person is currently trying to sell a car on eBay (and on Carsales and Gumtree too). I would love to track this person down to name and shame them. I tried calling him/her this morning but the number just rang through (number obtained through gumtree ad). Does anybody have any advice on how to find out more information on them?

To view this eBay seller:

I know their ABN and company/partnership details but I'm trying to link to a person specifically. Any help would be appreciated.

TL;DR: Purchased item on eBay. Seller marked as posted a few days later. Item never received and seller has not responded at all. May get refund from eBay but that is currently being processed. Wanting to know of ways to track down seller who is currently selling a car on several different websites.

Well, I see you're not taking this personally so that's a good start….

I'd advise letting it go, I understand you're frustrated and mad at the seller's actions but is it really worth stalking someone over $220? I dunno, maybe you are that crazy…

    • It's not so much over the money. It's just that'd I'd get intense satisfaction at outing this person, seeings as I'm not the only one they have done this too.

You could be right, and maybe I am being petty, but there's also the curious side of me that wants to know more about this individual.

      • So in other words you're considering becoming a SJW? You'll need at least 1 fedora if you don't already own one ;)

  • Same thing happened to me - Make payment, nothing arrives. Spend a week trying to contact seller - No reply Check Feedback (should have done that in the first place, 3 times in 2 years the item was never sent and no reply to buyer….Yet still an active account!

  • How do you plan to name and shame? Post his name on ozbargain or some random internet forum? I don't think the guy would care if you do that.

Always check the feedback BEFORE purchase!

  • What was your purchase date?

    • Purchase date was 29 nov. Have received a refund via eBay so matter has been resolved.

Take your refund, leave negative feedback, and leave it alone. What more do you want?

Who knows? Maybe the person flaked because they have a mental illness or something.

Friend moved into house from gumtree ad. Turns out the creep had hidden camera around the house. Had done it to many women. She moved out. Police couldn't do anything. Gumtree wouldn't do anything. He kept advertising on gumtree. She made another similar ad on gumtree to advertise the fact. Gumtree took her ad down.

    • Wtf!? Plaster that address everywhere! Name and shame so that the guy would be the first on google searches!

Similar thing happened to a friend of mine too. After she moved out of a renatl place in Camberwell, the landlord stalker her out on FB and hinted that he had hidden a camera in the bathroom. He also sent her d*** pics. Went to the police and they said they couldn't or wouldn't do anything.

I'd imagine if the same happened to the officers daughter, he'd of approached the matter differently though.

  • You weren't ripped off. You were inconvenienced.

I got ripped off on eBay once and used their name from Paypal to track down their social media followed by where they work. Called their workplace and spoke to the manager. Got the refund without having to PP dispute :)

    • That's brilliant! Most people would not behave in that kind of manner if they knew that their behaviour was known to those around them. To which I'm a bit surprised by some of the comments here advising me to move on.

This individual has several company names/business names registered (including an online marketing business). If they behave this way in a simple eBay transaction, I'd shudder to think how he's running those other businesses and the people that are being short changed there.

  • Step 1: Cop it on the chin and move on.

If you don't know how to do it without asking for help on the internet, don't waste your time, unless your time isn't important to you. Be grateful you got your money back.
