Is there an option for cable?

    • Oops requesting to add it now.

  • Where's cable on the list?

I'm on Telstra Cable and get 115-120Mbps on Speedtest

    • +1

Had cable in Perth with Telstra. Maximum I got was 140Mb/s.

      Good times.

      • +1

Yep - the only advantage NBN would offer me is faster uploads at this stage.

I won't be giving up my cable connection any time soon

        • Im with optus cable with a awesome pack hope i dont
loose it when nbn comes works is in progress for nbn in my suburb :(

          currently getting

unlimited phone calls mobile/land 1300 overseas landlines
          unlimited intrernet with speedpack
fetch tv with 30 channels and epl

      • 3.30pm telstra cable in melbourne:
        Your Line Speed
        80.40Mbps (80,405 kbps)

        Your Download Speed
        10.05MB/s (10,051 KB/s)

        • cheers, i got telstra cable too and added a speedboost today. am getting very similar speeds to you

    • Cable is HFC.

When NBN comes to areas with Telstra Cable, they will just be renaming it HFC. I don't know if they will be improving upload speeds, but I doubt it.

    ADSL2+ - TPG

A mindbogglingly 3.5 to 4 Mbps on average - and maybe 4.5 Mbps when the planets are aligned correctly.

60 AUD per month for this privilege.

    • :(

I remember the days when we opened the pit and put a plastic bag over our copper. Only thing that kept it working.

    • same here :( blows my mind how some people here have 90+ mbps

    • I would be really happy if my internet could get up to your speed

      ADSL2+ - Telstra

0.8-1 Mbps download, 0.2 Mbps upload on average

      $70 per month…

        Ouch.

        Genuinely feel for you.

Have you checked your contract? Normally there's a window of optimum performance that these guys have to deliver. When I was signing up for Internet (way back in 2011) - this is what I remembered reading - not sure if still applicable.

TPG says anything about 2.5 Mbps is considered 'acceptable' to them and any additional effort to resolve is upon the customer.

Telstra can't be saying that's 'acceptable' by any standard - even if they own the infrastructure.

          Thanks mate.

We thought about that option too and have been talking to Telstra. Their technician came to check last week. He did something at the exchange and managed to bring the speed to 2.4 Mbps. Not great but at least we can browse Ozbargain :-)

We'll continue monitoring the speed and hopefully will be able to terminate the contract early.

    • Getting about the same, they install NBN next month and I ordered the superfast plan. So I'm hoping it improves significantly but my expectations are low.

  • 11.something Mbps. Optus ADSL i think, i dont know. I just pay the bills.

It took me five minutes to do the speed test but I am finally there…

  • Dropped the FailDSL for fixed wireless (not NBN) at 20/1 but will be upgrading to 100/20 next month.

Not home right now but local speed tests top out at 2.4MB/s down 150KB/s up. Very happy with service.

    I'm sad now

  • +5

I'm in Seoul at the moment

    278.2 Mb/s down
    252.5 Mb/s up

    • and just like that my above speed test shows how truly bad Australian internet is.

      • Not just Seoul, I know for a fact that HK has the same speed. I did one when I was there… just gotta find it first lol.

      • Yes but it's a lot easier to deploy a network in a country like Korea.

  • reading people's posts about having FTTP just makes me want to //wrists.

    400kb/s download speed here.

    • I feel your pain… I only recently got FTTN

  • Optus HFC Cable $75pm inc. phone.

    Right now:
    Download Speed 30.21 Mbps
    Upload Speed 1.40 MB/s
    http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5881354720

The speed varies a lot however, up to 94 UL / 36 DL
However, most days it averages much closer to 30 UL / 2 DL, and frequently as little as 6 UL / 0.1 UL !

I suspect network congestion is to blame, hopefully the infrastructure upgrades with NBN roll-out with alleviate that ?!?

  • NBN fibre to the premises at 100/40 megabits / second. Haven't done a speed test for a while but last time the results were right up to the nominal speed. $60/pm. Mornington Peninsula (Hastings) VIC.

  • NBN fixed wireless

    Download 23.23

    Upload 4.78

Probably around double my old ADSL connection.

  • Download 30.17Mbps
    Upload 1.43Mbps

Optus Cable, no 'speed pack' (so 30Mbps is the limit for me - with speed pack it could go up to 100Mbps, although frankly I'd be surprised if it did that regularly)
$90/month bundle (includes unlimited data, Fetch TV with entertainment, and landline with unlimited calls in OZ as well as some 'selected' countries)
No plans for NBN in my area at all, plus copper service is pair gained so no ADSL2+, so only options for me for high speed are either Optus or Telstra cable.

Have been with Optus for years - my current contract ended the other day so am going to call 'em and see what sort of deal they can do for me. Maybe they can throw that speed pack in for free…….

  • you should have a third world option for speed

  • ADSL2+ - Internode, SE Melbourne - ~18Mbps Down (I can see the exchange from my house)

  • adsl2+ amnet belmont wa, 10Mbps down .8Mbps up

adsl2+ iifail belmont wa, 6Mbps down .7Mbps up

  • Fixed Wireless from Uniti Wireless

    50/10 plan - http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/2464578482

  • Telstra Cable - Speed Boost to 100/2 (I generally get speeds over 100Mbps).

    Leeming, WA.

    108.16Mbps / 1.89Mbps

*Had optus ADSL for 2 years, while Telstra was being jerks on cable download limits. 4Mbps/1Mbps

  • ADSL - line speed 1.92mbps, download speed 240kb with Telstra - as I'm a techno novice, are these figures good or bad?

  • 100meg Optus HFC here. Gets down to about 4 meg during congestion periods. Any leeching I save till after midnight.

  • Telstra HFC
    113 Mbps down
    2.4 Mbps up

These speeds are 24/7, there is no congestion.

Changed from Optus HFC when Netflix came out. My speeds turned to sh!t at this time.
