Hi All, whats a good drain cleaner, need it for the kitchen :).i see so many brands in Bunnings which ones will you recommend?
Best Drain Cleaner You Have Used?

Ahh hydrochloric acid eh? Where from?
From bunnings, i just saw the product. will give it a go thanks!
I've usually used caustic soda, but am thinking of going the opposite. Are there any issues with using acid in the plumbing? I know how to handle it from chemistry. I know some drain covers are metal, for example.
Caustic Soda does the trick, ~$4-5 for 500g at Bunnings, Woolies, Coles, etc.
You're supposed to dilute it, but it's good to pour in, then add water - watch the mini explosions :P
+1 for caustic soda and boiling water
Bad idea to pour solid Caustic down a drain… you risk not only explosion of caustic solution back up the pipe but potentially melting your pipes in the Exothermic reaction!
Drain cleaners can be so much fun.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/alexberezow/2013/11/04/why-you-s…I have found drain cleaners to come off 2nd to a good old workout with my right hand in the form of a plunger. I plunge away until the blockage is gone and then leave an enzyme-based solution overnight and give it a good flushing in ze morning.
Have seen it go bad with caustic soda - it came back up as they were looking down the pipe so PLEASE wear googles/glasses/anything & stand clear…just in case :-)
Thanks guys, ill take care when using the chemicals. cheers.
Draino I hear is pretty good… Lol there are heaps of drain cleaners out there.
A better option is to look at why its blocked, if its greese build up maybe look into changing how you clean up.
its not fully blocked but slow draining, and a tad stinky haha. time to do something about it!!
That sounds like a build up, my trick is to keep a icecream or Marge container in the freezer and tip roast juices ect into it, throw in bin on bin day.
You could likely clear some the gunk with demestos (its thick and clings) then plunge. But any drain cleaner should fix that.
I use to have a frog that lived in the drain, it would be blocked but then after 15 seconds of hot water it would unblock. I ended up dropping salt down the drain out of frustration. On the 3Rd day no more blockage lol.
Acid is not a good suggestion…
Especially if you have galv pipes anywhere in your system!Kitchen sink is likely to be clogged with food and/or fat deposits.
My first recommendation would be to remove the U bend and physically clean it to ensure it's not just a clog there.
Assuming it's further down the line, Hot water (lots of it) and Caustic Soda (Sodium Hydroxide).
The Caustic and heat will convert fats into soap.Run the hot water for 10 minutes first to get the water in the pipes all hot, then add a Caustic soda solution, let it sit for 15 minutes to do it's thing, then another 10 minutes of hot water to flush the system of caustic, then Plunge to force any blockages loosened by the caustic through the system.
Don't plunge with caustic still in the system!Wear eye protection and gloves when handling caustic.
If mixing your own caustic solution from solid Sodium Hydroxide "pearls", start with cold water in a heat resistant container, add solid caustic slowly. The solution will self heat, cause dissolving Sodium Hydroxide is an exothermic reaction. It will boil, bubble and froth if you add too much, too quickly! Thanks!!!, pipes are new and not galv. but what you suggest sounds good, i should try it. will see how i go. :)
hci usually do the trick. $16.50 for 5l.
