I'm after cheap Android phones with USB Type-C reversible ports, ideally under $200-250ish, $300 absolute max.
The Nexus 5X seems like about the best option I can find, with the added bonus of stock Android.

I've heard news about how Nexus 5X users are getting a refund instead of LG fixing the devices because of certain parts are not available.
LG is issuing full refunds for owners that are suffering from a particular malfunction that causes a "boot loop" and an unusable phone.
…
The service email to multiple customers says that the company simply doesn't have the parts available to fix this specific problem, which would indicate that said part isn't interchangeable with a more mainstream device.

"I don't recommend the Google Pixel devices though"
OP is asking cheap phones $200… if only pixel is that price range i will buy as well
its like "can i cheap car with ferrari engine?"
and it seems like it will get support dropped by Google sooner than you'd think.
Old thread I know, but was looking for something cheap so applies.
Just on this, Nexus 5X got Oreo, so to claim it will be dropped soon isn't NQR. Yes this will most likely be its last update though.
The Lenovo Zuk Z2 looks pretty good, it was $227 in this deal but it just expired.
I'd get one if you don't mind fiddling with it to flash a custom ROM and don't care about the missing band 28.
I bought it on Saturday evening (after the deal said expired) for ~AUD$232.
Hoping it won't take too long to arrive
Do they charge in AUD or we have to pay currency conversion fees?
There's an option just to the left of the price for currency, you can select AUD
@normanwall: Thanks.

Nextbit Robin is another option
Well I ended up getting the Nexus 5X. Thanks anyways guys.
The Nexus 5X is definitely high-upon that list.
However, the battery and the SoC let it down… and it seems like it will get support dropped by Google sooner than you'd think.
There's the Nexus 6P, which fares better, but obviously it will cost you.
I don't recommend the Google Pixel devices though.
Also on your list should be the OnePlus 3 and 3T. Or anything with a QSD 820 (or better).
Which should last as long OR longer than the Nexuses (Nexi) in terms of support.
Not to mention some competitors of the 1+3, such as the Axon 7 etc etc.
