A few days ago I went for a job interview, I was told they they had 3 vacancies and where interviewing 3 people on that day. How many people do they conduct normally in total? As my friend told me normally 1 vacancy = 10 people, and depends on the type of job I guess.

Are we quessing tonight lotto numbers?
Well there are almost 1 million unemployed in Australia plus add in those looking to change career plus add in those employed on casual or part time basis looking for more work, I reckon 1.5M
lol
generally for one position they narrow it down to around 3 candidates
Job vacancies are run from a few days to a few weeks. Depending on the quality of the candidates they been getting showing up at the door figuratively speaking and sometime literally speaking.
So to give you a totally made up figure. 3 interviewees per day time say 15 working days (3 weeks). Thats 45 people.
If you are asking how many people they interview a day. Then i could give you another totally made up figure. It can range from 1 to maybe 5 a day. All depends how much time they got to spend on these interviews.
TL;DR
Dont worry how many they interview. They interviewed you too. Thats a good thing. Good luck. Hope you get the job.
If they've interviewed you, you're already over the biggest hurdle, they don't interview people they don't think are up to the task. I think other comments are accurate, count on 3x interviewees for one position. If they're contacting your referees, the unwritten rule is that you've already got the job unless your referees scuttle it for you.
Or its the HR department trying to look busy so they interview pretty much everyone
CEO of an international company - probably 3 interviews
Ditch Digger - probably the one who applies
Rep for Spirits company - 1000In essence, my young friend, the more appealing the job, with the least experience required, the more applicants.
Something you will learn with life experience
My first nursing job - The one advertised in a major regional centre - 400 applicants for 33 positions.
Same job in a tiny rural town six hours from anywhere - 10 applicants for 5 jobs.
The job was advertised for literallly 10 days before pulling it off the list, I was given a phone call 5 days after it was up. Then asked for the interview the next folllowing week which was this Thursday.
Ok. More made up numbers. 10 days an advert for a job was up. 200 people sent in their resumés.
The pile of resumés where culled down to say 30. Over 10 working days they interview 3 people a day.
TL;DR
long story short. You got an interview as wampus said thats already a hurdle you got over. Drinks are on you if you get the job.
