Citibank Plus International Transaction Fee - Will It Be 2.5% from 1 March 2017? [No]

I just got an email from Citibank regarding some changes in their T&C.
One of the biggest one for me is that the Citibank International Transaction fee will now be charged for Citibank Plus (as they are removing the exclusion)

UPDATE: I have just called the Citibank call center and they they have confirmed that the fee will NOT be applicable to Citibank Plus accounts (as per the FAQ)

Will there be additional charges as a result of this change?
No. The fees and charges for your account remain the same.

        • I would just apply.

It is clear that there is no fees, as per Citibank's T & C's.

If I got charged a fee I would be on the phone and getting it sorted straight away.

        • Sorry my late reply. They took a while but after some more emails they gave me a more personalised answer.

In February I did more international transactions online and in store (in UK actually) with no fees. Citibank informed me the previous fee was charged by the vendor. It seems strange as it only happened once but so far so good. Have a safe trip to the UK.

      • Any update on this?

        • Hi,

I've just update it above. It was a one-time "mistake" only. I didn't get charged anymore.

        • Some people in the Whirlpool forums seem to have had a similar fee charged when using the Citibank Debit Card.

        • @iko: No they are not! See They were referring to a Citi Rewards Platinum Credit Card

        • @Baysew: Anyway, I got exactly the same fee and I'm on the Citibank Plus Visa Debit Card :( Hope it doesn't happen more times.

        • @iko: Charged by the Vendor.

        • @Baysew: Considering I buy from that website regularly using my Citibank card it was strange that I got charged that fee this time. That's why I posted it on here, it wasn't normal.

        • @iko: Well I'm glad you got it sorted and was able to report that it was " previous fee was charged by the vendor", and not by Citibank.

Perhaps you may wish to name that vendor and website to let others now.

  • Can anyone confirm that the debt card still gives you the spot rate on OS purchases?

I have read the thread but that didn't seem to come up.

    • Well the debt (sic) card won't be giving you the forward rate, will it?

      • dont know what a forward rate is… does it answer my question?
maybe i should have been more specific I mean online OS purchases in non AUD currency.

        • Yes pretty much, the future rate is sometime in the future, the spot rate is around the time of the transaction.

So the card allows you to make "online OS purchases in non AUD currency"

        • @Baysew:
ahh sweet I see now your original post was "yes" but framed as sarcasm

          how helpful

at least we got there in the end

        • @ozbjunkie:If you don't know what a term means, (such as spot rate) perhaps don't put it in your question.

I am sorry I made the mistake of over estimating your knowledge, and my answer appeared to you as being sarcastic. Didn't want to spoon feed you, and thought you could think it through yourself.

        • @Baysew:

Know what a spot rate is but not a forward rate.

But yeah, still happy I have an answer.

  • Looking at this page: https://www.finder.com.au/citibank-switches-to-mastercard

'There will be no changes to international transaction fees or free Citibank-branded ATM withdrawals overseas, aside from the fact Mastercard exchange rates will apply, rather than Visa.'
