Help with Sunglasses for Someone Short Sighted

I saw these sunglasses at Aliexpress.

Firstly they are just an example of many that are available.

I was attracted to them because they have feature which shows up under screen shot 5, of a myopia frame.

What this appears to be is a clip in frame that sits behind the sunglasses which are in effect glasses for someone with short sight.

My question is to ozbargainers

Anyone have experience with these sunglass types, specifically using the inserts, and where did they get the inserts made (or fitted) with the lens

Thank you

  • Huh.
    Who's there?

The insert is detachable. This mean that you take the insert out and go to an independent optometrist (chains like OPSM or Specsavers can't do it) to ask them to fit the lenses in. Quite straightforward to do judging by the size of the insert.

    • ah thats making sense. thanks

If you are in a health fund you may be able to get prescription sunglasses free. Worth looking into.

  • I'm short sighted and with Medibank Private, I can get prescription sunglasses every year ( I just pay a small gap fee of around $15 dollars to get the polarising lenses upgrade at SpecSavers)

    • Thanks for the thoughts on the health fund, but they really dont have much choice in styles, I have pairs already under these plans

  • I recommend you Oakley prescription sunglasses.

The rockbro with addon near sight lenses will get heavy and will hurt the bridge of your nose.

    • Good point.

However the price is astronomically higher, even the cheapies say $150USD Plus prescription.

My intention is to use these while riding which is about 2-3 hours max.

Whats your thoughts based on that situation?

      • for road riding it will be ok for mountain biking your sunglasses will fall off every time you hit a bump if they are heavy up front (unless you get a strap).

just ensure which ever pair you get has adequate UVR protection for your eyes (AS/NZS 1067:2003)

        • yes its just road riding (although with a cheap Aldi mountain bike).

Your insights like the others is very much appreciated

  • The sunglasses are pretty enough to wear, while the inserts are detachable which can be removed anytime. But the fact is that the sunglasses cannot be worn for a long time period. I tried those but could not wear more than 4-5 hours. I don't know what was the reason behind it but they left a mark on my nose and kept on digging in it which was really annoying. So, be careful before buying those.
