Advice needed for a new 4K TV upgrade, cheers

Hi all I recently acquired the last piece of my puzzle in the 4K upgrade with a Samsung Series 8(500) which is getting delivered tomorrow.

Just a few questions, with my :

Chromecast v2 (not 4k version)
Xbox One S
Logitech Smart Hub
Pioneer VSX-930 Receiver
Fetch Box
Alexa

Is it better to plug the Xbox , FetchTV and the Chromecast (mainly us-ing/ed it for Plex, but I can run Plex via tv now) into the TV's "oneconnect box'? or keep it running through the VSX 930? and just have the optical from tv to amp? as the TV OS seems to be quite simple and clever to use for the family.

Any thoughts or ideas let me know please, Cheers

  • Assuming you are using a full surround sound speaker system, why wouldn't you go via the VSX-930? It's HDMI 2.0 across all inputs, so no issues with HDMI. I know I would be wanting the Xbox in full 5.1+

Are you not using the Harmony Hub to its full potential? You can set up the AVR & TV for HDMI CEC if that is simpler for your family, so they can just use the Samsung remote and it will control volume and inputs for any TV viewing. Just use the ARC output between the AVR and the TV.

  • a) Yeah I just thought seeing as the Samsung was able to auto detect the HMDI inputs, I could have the TV managing it, and connect the TV to the 930 and use the optical cable and it would all still get processed for 5.1?

    b) Yes we have 'activities' running on the Smart Hub, although sometimes it doesnt behave correctly, I thought if I could let the TV manage the inputs it would be easier to just have one activity and let the TV manage the devices.

    Thanks for your reply :)
