$45 Tickets to Aladdin at Capitol Theatre 2 Hours before Every Show [Sydney]

960

I saw this on the Capitol Theatre's Facebook feed.

"RUSH TICKETS: We're making wishes come true this week with $45 Aladdin - The Musical tickets available 2 hours prior to every performance! Tickets are only available from the Capitol Theatre Box Office and are strictly limited.
*Limit 2 per transaction."

They seem to be showing at 1pm and 8pm Wednesday to Sunday.

I got there at 6 today and there were about 50 people in the queue and still managed to get seats halfway in the stalls! Great show!

  • cool, so do they just sell whatever seats are remaining?

how long was the line closer to 8pm?

    • +2

It seems so. The seats I got were halfway in the stalls and 1/3 of the way across but I suppose it might be more popular on the weekends? Well after 6, which is when they started selling the tickets, there was an existing queue of about 50, and I think about 15 or so people after me, when I finally got tickets at about 6.20. They did take amex as well with no surcharge!

  • Good deal! Even if I cannot make use of it (different city).

  • "They seem to be showing at 1pm and 8pm Wednesday to Sunday."
until? march 2017? gee soo long!
i think they will have $25 sale around feb :D

also they have 6.30pm show on Sundays.

how long the show lasts for?

    • just went through the fb comments

"Capitol Theatre: This week so far, but if they extend we will let you know."
so i think its only for this week. I want tickets between Christmas and New Years, might go to the capital theatre box office to see anyway during the week :p

      • you sure?? well ok i will call now

        • +1

Yeh sorry I meant the rush tickets are on for this week!

        • did they tell you if they will extend the deal on the phone?

        • +1

@jcheunga: nah they said at this stage, only this week. no guarantee will be any at that price too. but this week means up to sunday.

  • +2

You should get paid helping them fill-up the seats. Last-minute professional services is expensive.

  • +2

Saw the show a few weeks ago and loved it! Definitely worth checking out.

  • Might check it out tonight hmmmm

    • I would try and line up a bit earlier than 6 if possible to improve your chances!

      • I need 3 tickets and the others finish at 6 T__T

        • Hmm you need a friend to line up with you coz it's 2 per transaction.

        • @YadaYadaYada: yeah that's the thing. It doesn't work online, does it?

        • @purplelady: No, gotta be there and in line! It was still doable lining up at 6 yesterday, so still might be worth trying your luck anyway if your friends/family work close? I'm guessing it'll be better odds today than Friday/weekend since the show runs quite late (~10.30) on a worknight.

        • @YadaYadaYada: OK will try my luck today. I have to check with the others first though, can't remember exactly their shifts!

        • @YadaYadaYada:
We queued for around 1 hour since 6:05 and got Row T. The queue was still there when we finished, but there were so many empty seats! There were probably 8 seats empty on the row behind us, and from row V backward the seats were all empty!

Thanks for posting this up btw, very great price for this show :)

        • @purplelady: Geez it definitely did get more popular! I can't imagine what the weekend would be like. I think anything in the stalls is good in that theatre so you did well! I got some really cheap nosebleed tickets to Mary Poppins a few years ago on balcony seats above the stalls, near the back, and you couldn't see facial expressions and everything looked a lot smaller.

        • @YadaYadaYada:

yeah the queue was pretty long. Almost got to the entrance of Capitol Sq. But yeah I was happy :)

I'll keep that in mind, not to get balcony seats near the back in the future. I've never been up there.

Did you like the musical btw? I found the singing to be quite.. rough…

        • @purplelady: Yeh when I lined up, I was roughly at the last Aladdin poster on the wall.

Yeh with that show, because the first few rows weren't full on the balcony, everyone at the back upgraded themselves after intermission, and the view was a lot better!

LOL I think it was entertaining. I liked the Genie and Iago. They were hilarious. They also seemed to have spared no expense on the special effects! The songs sounded ok, but a bit fast (was it just me or did they speed through "a whole new world"?).

        • @YadaYadaYada:

oh ok. Do you remember which row was it roughly? just for my future reference.

Yeah it was entertaining for sure! I liked the jokes and yep, special effects and costumes and etc were great. At one point I was literally blinded by it lol

yep, the sped through a whole new world. I was a bit disappointed by that actually. Okay maybe I expected too much, I was hoping the carpet went out of the stage and sped up and down, tumbling, freewheeling just like the lyrics LOL

        • @YadaYadaYada:
The part where Genie sang the medley was AWESOME!

        • @purplelady: Re those Mary Poppins seats. They were selling the B reserve seats at $45 each. Row S onwards in the dress circle was B reserve for that show. You can't make out facial expressions at that distance!

LOL I was a bit blinded by some of those effects too! Agree on the Genie's big number. So awesome.

    • +1

and post feedback after? about the buying ticket not the performances :)

      • hahaha sure if I end up going :)

      • We queued for about an hour starting from 6:05. Got 4 seats in row T, first floor. I was happy. Good value for $45 :D

        • thanks. wow looks like need to come 1.5 hrs earlier on weekend then.
or maybe the opposite, weekdays shows are more popular because office workers finish work at 6 then go to watch them.

        • @dragonindespair: or maybe people already give up without even trying, thinking the queue would be crazily long on weekends? :)

        • @purplelady: hmm now im thinking to setup a tent and camp there from tonight. just like apple fanbois.

        • @dragonindespair: LOL!!!! well let me know about how you go then :P

  • +9

Excellent show, highly recommend it. Had to re-mortgage the house to see it but it was worth every penny

  • Coolio~!!!! I am going tmr. Will be there around 5:15pm, hopefully I can get a good tickets then.

  • Is it strictly first come first serve? I remember for some previous shows like Wicked they use to do a lottery to determine who got the cheap tickets.

    • It's not a lottery. It's first come first served - there was a queue outside the box office yesterday at the Capitol Theatre.

  • +6

Can't wait for the Melbourne run. Until then, I content myself with watching youtube clips. Some trivia for those of you who may not be aware:

    • So our (OZ) Princess Jasmine (Arielle Jacobs) is in real life, the sister of Broadway's Aladdin (Adam Jacobs).
This youtube clip, where they conspire to surprise their parents, about Arielle getting the Australian gig, is quite entertaining! :-)

    • Also, a brilliant performance of Proud of Your Boy by Adam Jacobs (Broadway's Aladdin) with composer Alan Menken on the piano.

  • What is the standard price for the tickets? I can't tell if $45 per ticket is a good deal or not.

    • Definitely good deal.

Take the cheapest session, Wed matinee, A-reserve is $100.
For A-reserve 8pm Sat, the cost is $135-$165.

I use A-reserve for prices above - since YadaYadaYada's comment shows that A-reserve tickets are given.

And this does not even take into account a handling fee of $8.15, which is charged if you buy the tickets online.

BTW, I saw, at the same time as this post, a deal for $85 A-Reserve if bought online. I did not think to post, since this deal trumps it hands down!

    • Generally the big musicals cost 100+ full price and for the ones that go on discount via lasttix near the end of the season (not all do), seats are usually around the 69 dollar mark. Sometimes there are production specials - wicked and legally blonde did lotteries for cheap tickets and tickets for winners were ~30.

  • Bought tickets to see them in 2 weeks, I wonder if this means they'll refund and re-issue..hmm!

    • +1

I do not think they ever issue refunds. If you have bought the insurance that goes with it, and something comes up, you can claim on that.

But note that using this deal is a bit of a gamble. You could get really lousy seats e.g. seats at the side, back rows, or semi-obstructed view seats even.

Which is why, for me, if I really want to see the show, such deals I will only consider for repeated attendance. So I won't be overly disappointed if I get allocated bad seats.

      • Fair call, fair call.

We bought tickets in the middle of the last sector as we're on a bit of a budget :P Looking at the availability now there's more than half the show to still sell and those tickets are in-front of us.

I'll send them a FB message see if they'll upgrade our seats :)

        • +1

Good Luck, I hope they upgrade you or move you more front. Also, once the show starts, perhaps it is OK to move up yourselves :-)

        • +1

          @bluesky:

Thought I'd come back to say they were ever accommodating. I received a ticket upgrade from the top in the last section to the first section on ground floor in row F. It was fantastic!

        • +1

@SpotTheOzzie: Wonderful! Happy for you. Thanks for reporting back :-)

  • +2

Just watched it tonight - thanks so much for the deal! Waited for about 40mins in line from 5:40pm. Maybe 100+ people, still got decent seats: row N to the side but good views.

  • +1

Thanks for posting this!! Also went last night and waited for about 40 mins from 5.25, got great seats in the stalls in the middle row P.
Would definitely recommend getting there early if you are planning on going on the weekend.

    • That's awesome. It sounds like it got even more popular too!

  • so this ends this sunday?

    • Yep, but you never know, it may be extended. Who knows.

  • Does anyone know when they actually start to sell the tickets? Do they start to sell earlier then 6pm for the evening shows? thanks

    • No the line forms before 6pm, but they only start selling at 6pm.

      • Thanks for info

  • +1

Stuck in Melbourne but I saw Aladdin in Sydney a few months back. Amazing show with such an awesome cast.
High Adventure was my favourite song!

  • looks like Friday night has the most tickets left available compared to Sat/Sun.

  • Excellent production. Thanks op

  • Is anyone in the Saturday queue, wave ya OZB hands in the air !

  • Report please about Saturday 2pm queu?

  • +1

I'd love to know how today went too. Planning on seeing it tomorrow if time permits.

  • +3

Got there today around 10.50 and we were 8th in the line, by the time it was 12.00 I would say there was around 50. Managed to get 2 tickets in row H in the stalls so great seats.

    • Ok i guess lining up 2.5 hours before show would be fine. Did you move to the front (better empty seats) after show starts? Is it possible?

      • Some seats on J row are normally $215 (for sat 2pm), and H row is $165. So these rows must be considered quite optimal to take in the whole scene. For some, they may prefer to keep these seats rather than move closer.

Of course, there are also those of us who prefer much closer, for better viewing of facial expressions and (possibly) sound.

  • For the 8pm show, we got there just before 5pm and were 5th to get tickets. We sat in the stalls, row s (note - there was 5 of us).

    Great show!

  • Thanks for posting this!
Lined up at 4pm today for the 6:30 show. About 30 people in front. By 4:40 we had 4 tickets in hand for the 4th row of the balcony.

  • +1

if they extend the offer, i think lining up 2.5hours before show time is enough. they will almost definitely has seats to sell.

  • Just came back from seeing this tonight. Started lining up around 445pm for the 630pm show and got tickets upstairs in row j.

Worth seeing it for the $45 price tag.

  • I want to say thanks to the OP for posting this deal. I went to watch the 1pm show on Sunday and really enjoyed it. Got there 1 hr and 45min before show start and there was only 1 person in front of me in the queue. We sat in the balcony for more central view row M. Quite a big turnout but still plenty of seats available.

  • Anybody know if this was extended for this week?
No updates on the FB page

  • Why expire?

We got 4 tickets @ $45 each today. Wife queued up at 530pm.

It is a great show. I actually think it is better than Lion King.

    • what time was the actual session?

      • +1

It was Friday 8pm session. That was just before Christmas. Plenty of seats available that day.

  • Hi guys, going to sydney today…was wondering whether the $45 tickets are still avialable? will be keen to check it out on 30 dec.

    • +1

Yeh they are. They're on for every show til the end of the season in Sydney - someone reposted the updated deal when they extended the ticket offer

    • Seems you missed the word every in the subject…. To be sure just call them. Less than 1 mins you'll get the answer.

    • +1

Did you get tickets? In line as we speak

      • interested to hear how you go,
planning to go to the 2pm session tomorrow

        • +3

Got 4x tickets at about 6:25pm. Don't know how good the tickets are yet. There were about 30 people in front of me and about 50 behind me. Not sure whether they got tickets or not but it seems like they got tickets too.

FYI and for anyone else planning to buy tickets, keep in mind that they are a ticketmaster merchant which means you can buy ticketmaster gift cards from Coles/Woolies with your discounted gift cards. I wish I had known earlier (or wish someone else may have mentioned it) so I could've done it.

They also accept AMEX with no surcharge.

Closest Coles is World Square - they had no stock of the ticketmaster gift cards.

There are two Woolies close by - Town Hall and Woolies metro near Central station along Elizabeth street. Woolies Town Hall did have plenty of them in stock, only in $100 denominations on ground level.

          TLDR:

          • Started lining up at 5:15pm, got 4x tickets at 6:25pm. ~30 in front of me in line, and about ~50 behind. Don't know if those behind got tickets.
          • Given choice of upper deck or lower deck but not really specific choice of seat. Picked 4 seats for upper deck. You will be told what seats you're about to purchase upon payment (i.e. at the counter)
          • No surcharge for AMEX. They are a ticketmaster merchant. You can buy ticketmaster gift cards from Coles/Woolies using discounted gift card. Coles World Square had no stock. Woolies Town Hall had plenty of $100 ticketmaster gift cards in stock on ground level.
          • This was for Friday 8pm session
        • @illumination: oh you don't find out where you're seated until you get in?

thanks for the heads up on the gift cards, might pick up enough for two at woolies

        • +1

@impoze: you sort of get a choice when you pay, and they'll tell you what kind of seats they're about to issue you with. However, we were all given a "generic" warning about being given a choice of only upper deck and lower deck but not specific seats.

        • @illumination: so are you hanging around the entry door to get the best possible seat?

Thanks for all the feedback btw!

        • @impoze: no lol sorry as in when you pay for your tickets, they tell you what seats you're about to get. I didn't actually contemplate hanging around for the best seats because I'd imagine the longer you wait the worse the seats would be.

So when they told me, "you can either get single seats along the ground level, or you can get 4 seats together upstairs in row U on the side", as he pointed to where exactly in row U. I said ok give me upstairs.

        • +1

@illumination: ah yeah so they are designated seats when you purchase the tickets

          enjoy the show!

        • +1

@impoze: Yes yes correct sorry haha. Thanks
          Good luck tomorrow

        • +1

@illumination: This is live account from the theatre! Your show about to start in 15mins, hope you enjoy it :-)

        • +1

@bluesky: wtf wait I'm coming now was busy trying to resell my tickets outside

  • In line for 2pm session
About 15 in front with more lining up behind

    • Did you get it? I don't imagine you would've had issues. Did you get ticketmaster gift cards from woolies?

      • Got E13 E14 which is lower, just off centre
        Pretty happy with that,

Didn't have enough time to stop by wooolies unfortunately

        • Still good. Hoped you paid with AMEX at least.

E13/E14 sounds like they're pretty close to the front so that sounds awesome.. enjoy!

  • Just advising everyone that the RUSH tickets are still on.
Attended last night and was fantastic.

Just make sure you check schedule, they recently changed Sunday's to 1:00pm and 6:30pm show.
I lined up about 1 hour prior to the RUSH queue and was 2nd in the queue. After about 15 minutes, the queue was about 30 people long.

Recommend if you go on a Weekend to Queue at least 45 mins prior to the RUSH tickets if you want good seats.

Thanks again to OP for the deal
