Find Me a Brand New Corolla Ascent (and Some Contract Advice Needed)

Looking for a brand new Corolla Ascent, no frills base model and don't need anything with it, don't need metallic paint, can even be white. Just a cheap drive away price. Currently cheapest on carsales.com is $23,990 drive away, but surely someone can beat that price.

On a side note, the friend this is for has just signed for a car somewhere, wasn't planning on buying it as was at the first dealer she went to, and had the hard sell put on her. Paid a deposit for a deal which included a trade in, for which they WAY undervalued her car. Is it too late to get out of this?

I guess you want the auto so not the absolute base? the stick shift is $20,990 DA

if the contract has been signed, get a lawyer.

    • Ha, yeah really that bad? No cooling off period? No car has been delivered yet and no car handed over. At the very least I think they would agree not to take cash for the trade in?

Yes friend only drives auto unfortunately, and not interested in learning manual. Also is that base the sedan?

  • Deal with the original contract first before trying to buy another car.

This post is pointless, we're dealing with a 3rd party, and your friend has already signed a contract lol good luck

I hope you weren't the friend to point out that they overpaid, because they likely would've just gone on with life otherwise, now they're gonna be filled with anxiety about whether they can cancel the contract or not, etc etc

    • Thanks for your perspective, I believe you mentioned in the past you are in car sales so it's good to hear. On advice that I have received elsewhere, I have been told that although it's at the dealer's discretion it's usually a small matter to get a refund.

Also the dealer has basically given her the rack rate at any Toyota dealership in Australia, and for her 3k-4k Toyata offered $500. I think that's unconscionable, if you are ok with that sort of dealing with a 65 year old retiree, good luck to your customers. He should have told her to just sell it. I guess you think it's good to find a bargain except when people are buying cars?

By the way I tried a chicken risotto in my pressure cooker on your recommendation, thanks for the tip. Oh and congrats on the milestone.

      • Without knowing more details on her car, I couldn't say whether it's worth $500 or $4k. Do you think it's worth $4k because they sell for that much? Or is it worth $8k to actually sell?

We sometimes will say to sell a car privately, however many people don't like to and would rather drive in, and drive out. She's 65 then I doubt she wants to deal with making time for people to come around and take it for drives, lowball her etc.

        • It's listed in the red book as 1500 trade in, 3-4k private sale, and it's a Toyota Camry with low kms and complete log book, good paint and never been in a prang and one lady owner. I appreciate she may not get the 4k mark but she doesn't actually need a new car, she just thinks it's time to spoil herself (whitish is fine of course) . You are right about the hassle, but she absolutely didn't realise the situation or what the car is worth. She also has people close to her who would take care of all this for her end to end, she just got the hard sell on her after thinking she could just go and have a look without buying.
