Where to Buy No Sugary Chipotle Sauce

I am really wanting to get some chipotle sauce with my chicken (after coming back from USA). The only one I have found so far was from coles, but it's 1st ingridient was sugar syrup…. Apart from it being 50% sugar, I also do not like the sweet taste.

Does anyone know where I can get some half healthy chipotle sauce? Or a recipe to make my own?

  • I bought this one from an IGA and it is sugar free as well as being free from preservatives, colours etc.

    • Cool, how do you rate it?

      • +1

I don't find it hot at all but it has a nice smoky flavour. I can't stand sauces with heaps of sugar so I like it.

I also bought some whole dried chipotle chillis, dried them out some more in the oven and then ground them up. I sprinkle some of this with the sauce if I want some extra kick.

        • I like it, looks like I'm going to have to find an IGA. Did you get the chillis from there too?

        • @knobbs: I can't remember if I got the chillis from there too. Not all IGA's will have it, it depends on the owner.

I see you are in Melbourne so you could also try here

  • Go to Oasis Bakery on North Road in Murrumbeena. Get whole dried chipotle chili, chipotles in adobo sauce… plus other dried chillis that just add so much flavour to recipes. The name of them escapes me at the minute, but seriously, using them makes the best damn chili con carne you'll ever have. The chipotle's have real strong smokey flavour and plenty of kick too… its awesome.

    • Thanks for this, i'm gonna stop in oasis tomorrow! I've only ever used powdered chilli but always wanted to make chilli con carne with real chillies, what are your thoughts on this recipe? http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/33707/smoky+beef+chilli+con+…

Gawd this thread is making me hungry!

      • Thats EXACTLY the recipe i've used a number of times. I use it with mince instead, and its awesome. Ancho chillies are the ones I'm talking about earlier. Man they make it soooo good! If you've got a food vac sealer, make a whopping batch and freeze it - its bloody awesome to have in the freezer.

My suggestion is unless you like things STINKIN HOT, dont put in the cayenne pepper. I dont think it needs it anyway, but I find there is enough heat in the chipotle's in adobo and I always throw in a couple of dried chipotle's for extra smoky, spicy goodness.

They also have the chipotle's in adobo sauce in a can at Oasis. And every spice known to man I reckon. Seriously, love that shop!

        • Thanks for the advice man, cant wait to try it. Also my GF reckons she cooks better chilli than me so been looking for a good recipe to put the smackdown!

  • Tabasco Chipotle is surprisingly good for a Tabasco product, not that hot but a good flavour. I'm seeing it in most supermarkets around Melbourne lately.

  • Buy Chipotle in Adobo and use a blender?

    • I suppose none of the 'big' retailers sell chipotle or even chipotle in adobo do they?

If not no any places around Mt Ommaney/Middle Park QLD that do?
