Effective January 1, 2012, all HDMI products cannot make any reference to HDMI version numbers.

    • +4

Thanks for information, we will make the update asap

    • Why is that a thing anyway? Makes looking for a hdmi2.0 cable a massive pain.

      • +15

There's actually no such thing as a 2.0 HDMI cable. Older cables will support 4K transmissions perfectly fine. I've had to debate this with MSY storeworkers as they try to sell two types of HDMI cable; one that supports 4K and one that doesn't. It's a total con.

        From the HDMI website

Does HDMI 2.0 require new cables?
No, HDMI 2.0 features will work with existing HDMI cables. Higher bandwidth features, such as 4K@50/60 (2160p) video formats, will require existing High Speed HDMI cables (Category 2 cables).

        • +1

          Thanks for the information!

        • +1

          This is absolutely true.

In saying that, the cable itself CAN be at fault for 'No Connection' or similar symptoms, especially on longer runs; cheap suppliers use thin cabling (28AWG+) or cheap cabling (such as copper-clad aluminium).

This means that at the outer bounds of use, like long runs, or where there may be a grounding issue between devices, the cable may be the weakest link - and a replacement can/will fix the problem. For typical 1m cabinet to TV runs then the cable quality won't (usually) have any effect.

So, as with everything on OzBargain - buyer beware!!

  • Will this be good enough for a PS4 Pro on a 4K TV?

    • Yes, it's support PS4 Pro and Xbox One S

      • Bought thanks op

    • +2

PS4 Pro comes with a high speed HDMI cable in the box, no need to buy a separate cable.

      • +1

What about the Xbox one S? Is the included cable High Speed?

Got one last week from the JB Hi Fi Deal, it came with an HDMI cable however my Sony TV isn't picking it up on the list of devices to switch to (to power on automatically when switched on the TV's input list), so i was wondering weather its the cable's fault or not

        • +1

X1S cable should also be high speed, I'm using the included one for it and it seems to be listed as a high speed one. Could be a bum cable though so try another one!

        • +1

I got the ALDI 65" Super best bang for buck EVER 4k TV and the xbone included cable registed the 4k immediately and asked me if I wanna go that option.

        • +1

You need to make sure the HDMI-CEC is enable on both your TV and the Xbox. Some come with this feature disabled by default.

        • @zcooler: that fixed it thanks so much for this !

According to this article, HDMI Version numbers only refer to the sender/receiver of the HDMI signal (PS4/TV etc.), and that the cable is irrelevant. Makes sense, since it's a digital signal, so it either works or it doesn't:

  • I want to purchase 2 15M HDMI cables. Any deals on that OP?

  • @danilochan: any specials on a good HDMI switcher by any chance? My TV's HDMI ports are all used and I need to swap them around sometimes which is getting annoying.

  • +1

I bought the 15m one days ago but 4K doesn't work (no signal). And they still haven't give me a solution yet…Lol

    • Can depend on your source and/or target with a signal not strong enough for your longer cable. EG I've had to increase signal strength on a raspberry pi hdmi output before to get hdmi working properly over a longer distance. Do some research on whatever you have the cable connected to.

      • +1

PC or Xbox one S as source and LG 4K TV as display. Seems legit to me. The cable I bought here doesn't work under 4K but works if I use PS4(1080p).

  • +3

For anyone wondering if you need to upgrade your HDMI Cables to work with 2160p video (4K) - you don't, its a scam.

    • I dont think thats true anymore mate…

E.G with my ps4 pro my original HDMI cable didnt work but it worked on normal PS4

when i switched to the PS4 pro cable provided in the box the PS4 pro worked.

      Why is this?

      • As long as you have a category 2 HDMI cable, it should support Full HD 1080p (and technically 4K) signal. If you bought your cable in the last few years, there is a great chance that it is a category 2. Category 2 HDMI cable are available since 2008, so I wouldn't think they still make/sell category 1 cable long after that.

For 4K (Ultra HD) signal, it need to have a bandwidth of upto 18Gbs.

    • +3

It depends on what type of HDMI cable on hand.
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

HDMI 1.4 was released on May 28, 2009, and the first HDMI 1.4 products were available in the second half of 2009.[66][99] HDMI 1.4 increases the maximum resolution to 4K × 2K, i.e. 4096×2160 at 24 Hz (which is a resolution used with digital theaters) or 3840×2160 (Ultra HD) at 24 Hz/25 Hz/30 Hz

      @goingDHfast, Not necessarily correct - http://www.hdmi.org/consumer/finding_right_cable.aspx

  • Purchased a couple.

  • Any deals on display Port male to male ?

  • Any Braided versions you sell, and on sale as well by any chance?

  • Just a friendly FYI, there is no such thing as "Premium Quality" HDMI Cables.

You either have the correct version of the HDMI cable you are after along with the connection type you need & it works or it doesn't. Don't ever get suckered into paying for "premium". Just buy the most recent version and you'll be good.

Progressive version releases and connection types can be found here for reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

    • It is mostly true that it works or it doesn't and I too hate the idea that some take advantage of consumers by falsely or unnecessarily labeling cables as premium.

However, do keep quality in mind. Don't think that if you buy a $1 hdmi cable shipped from China that you won't see potential dropouts or signal loss.

The idea that premium would somehow improve image quality is BS for digital, but, for digital signals dropouts do need to be considered so people just need to make sure they are sensible and don't buy cables laced with shotty microscopic wiring inside.

      • $1 cables don't have to come from China, I just got one delivered from Sydney,6 ft for $1.09 through eBay. I haven't tried it yet though.

        • It could be fine, or you could've wasted a measly dollar so no big deal. Speaking from experience, if you see signal loss or dropouts then spend just a few bucks more on another cable. We're not talking the old "premium" markup scam, just a few dollars extra to spend on quality.

PS - Your $1 cable originally came from China and was marked up to $1 here in Aus.

        • @DrDollar: Where are your "quality" cables made?

        • +2

@shiznit: Same place, of course… But shock horror - You can buy products of differing quality, from, the, same, place! Who knew!

        • @DrDollar: You were totally correct, i dont understand why they voted you down. So i voted you up

  • Does this cable does support 4k@60hz with 4:4:4 chroma? The reason I ask is because my older HDMI cable can support 4k@60hz but at 4:2:0 chroma which means the colours looks like shit, it is similar affects when you put HDMI on limited instead of full.

    • our cables is tested and works with 4k@60hz
how to test the 4:4:4 chroma?

      • +1

        http://imgur.com/a/j44go

Go to Nvidia Control Setting and Under Display click on Change Resolution and you will see what the image above shown. If your cable support 4:4:4 chroma under the color ouput format it should says YCBcR444 like the image above. If this option is grey out that means your cable don't have enough bandwidth to support 4k@60hz with 4:4:4 chroma. I try so many cables in the past to test this out and the funny thing is only the cheap AMAZON basic cable can do this.

  • Do the prices include shipping?

    • +1

      yes, it's including shipping.

  • +3

    Why is this getting votes?
    The prices seem fairly standard.

5m HDMI cables are cheaper at Officeworks for $8.88. Picked up a few over the weekend and all working fine.

  • +3

I'm only giving it a thumbs up because it's labelled 'high speed'.
I'm sick of all those HDMI cables labelled 'low speed' and 'medium speed'!

    • IKR. I should've read fine print on mine that said 3K/2D low speed ethernet cables!

  • +1

i just bought 2 last night at regular pricing. boooooo

    • it sux. why does your name have a dot at the front, ive never seen that before

  • i bought the 1.5m, just in case i need it..

    • +7

Thanks for letting us know, I was only just wondering if you were getting one.

      • Anytime browski =)

  • Is it better than officeworks 1.5m HDMI cable at $3.98

    • -1

If by better, you mean 3c cheaper; then yes.

      • -2

Yeah caz 3¢ is going to save your life. If you think 3¢ is a saving then I don't know what do you do for living, are you homeless. It is implied that I meant build quality of the cable. 3¢ is not even counted as money.
