What Big Stainless Steel BBQ/Outdoor Kitchen to Buy

I have a mate who is building a house, and he's looking for a big ar$e BBQ to put under an awning on the back verandah. As he's in a gas serviced area he is looking to get something plumbed in/connected via a bayonnet.

To be honest he's looking at more of an outdoor kitchen type setup. As someone who's BBQed since they were a kid, I struggle to recommend anything that isn't wood/coal fired, I find that it's just more fun and the flavour is better. Having said that, this guy likes things to be convenient so coals will probably only get brought out when I go over. The two he's looking at currently are these:

Some background about where it's going etc., he's thinking it could be convenient to have a sink but not too fussed about the bar fridge as it will be off the back verandah near the kitchen. Also he doesn't really expect to have more than 20-25 people over at one time ever, although that might stretch on the occasion if I can take over his joint. Also he's able to get the sink plumbed in as the house is still being built.

I guess I'm wondering:

What types of bbq people can recommened eg. stainless/enameled etc,
What type of grill people like cast/stainless
How big a bbq do people think is required for the numbers
If anyone gets value out of a rotisserie or any other non standard gadgets
and of course if you can recommend a specific type or even better a deal.

Thanks!

    Matador Range?

    • I heard about these while doing soe research on BBQ forums, there were some mixed reviews however theres a lot more chance people will take to the net to complain about something than to praise something. Do you have any personal experience with Matador?

    One more thing to clean…

    • Yes that's what I think, a friend who has a stainless steel model tells me that's the only detraction to it. I like cast iron and coals for that reason, easier to clean and things cook pretty quick on coals, and you can transfer the whole thing upside down into a bin at the end.

I'd build all the cabinets and install a quality BBQ in them, the component ones might look good but are often made in China of cheap steel and are not great to cook on.
Have a look at the BBQ factory.com
Or buy a second hand weber trolley and put it next to a custom external kitchen

    • Yeah I was saying this was an option, however a kitchen guy told him the cabinetry was going to be 3k and then factoring in the BBQ he thought it would cost him 8k without lifting a finger. Of course this stuff isn't that hard and if you did it yourself there would be thousands to be saved I guess. I will check out the site.

  • In a past life I was a cabinet maker. We used to make this sort of thing out of marine ply then disassemble it and get exposed edges wrapped in stainless steel sheets. Then reassemble. Drop in BBQ should cost around 3k. Stay away from big retail outlets,
