Bio Oil 60ml $10 at Woolworths

250

Wife uses Bio Oil whenever she gets a scratch etc, says it helps scars go away or not form at all.
She only buys the 60ml bottle as it lasts for ages because she only uses a few drops each time.

Anyway it was time to get a new bottle, went to go to the chemist (Priceline) but it was $14.99. Next door is Woolies and its on sale for $10. Bargain.
Even Chemist Warehouse has it on sale but is $12.69.

My completist tendencies are getting triggered by this post! eg. when you collect 5 parts of a figurine magazine but your Mum forgets to buy Part 6. Nyeargh!

        BTW, congratulations @Gotchacha!

          Thanks (I'm petrified).

@Gotchacha: Was gonna write a long philosophical piece on parenthood and the human condition but OZB is not an appropriate venue… suffice it to say, loving and guiding your little tyke is the best one can hope to do in this crazy crazy world.

O, if only precious sleep was a stackable resource such as Eneloops :o

          RootingBarracking for ya!

This product is dressed up as a near medical option for scar treatment but is, in reality, as run of the mill as they come. The studies proving is effectiveness are misleading and incomplete while the actual formula itself is so basic you could buy a bottle of vitamin E enriched baby oil and get the same results.

Over-priced, over-hyped and certainly not worth the money.

    • Personally, this product doesnt leave much of an impression on me. :)

    • That was a good read.
      Thank you.

      • You're welcome, it's good to know.

the site has links to studies etc.
I dont know myself, but my wife likes it. Its probably the massaging that actually does the work. $10 every year or two isnt a big drama really.

        True.

and we shouldn't deny ourselves of the virtues of the placebo

I like it and used it when I was pregnant also and not a stretch mark. It smells nice and runs in well. I don't think baby oil is the same ballpark from my experience.

    • As per above.

Bio Oil smells nice, I'll give it that, but I'm yet to see any real medical evidence or proof that it works.

For anyone who is interested in the claimed befits of product(s) like this, research medical grade silicon (some of which you can buy in the supermarket, but I imagine it would be interesting to suggest it to a pregnant wife).

  • Wife used it every day during pregnancy, still got stretch marks. Maybe she got less coz of it?

      Well, there you go.

My GF didn't use it, got stretch marks.

Then again, she ALSO got fat.

Does it work on stretch marks caused by beer gut?

Wife used this stuff on her stomach for first 2 pregnancies and got 0 stretch marks at all. Did not use for this pregnancy and now has stretch marks.

    • +2

      Déjà vu :P

Surprised about the positive results. My dermatologist years ago said not to bother with bio oil for scarring. I assume it might be the rubbing/ friction/ massage itself that is minimising the scarring? Will have to run a double blind study!

ROFL - the illogicalness of that is hilarious!

Older and fatter women get stretch marks. Younger women tend not to.

She'll get stretch marks on her next pregnancy too, whether she uses oil or not.

And yet I know ladies in their 20s that are very thin that have horrible stretch marks, and likewise ladies in their 30s that are plus size with none. Go be a llama and spit elsewhere.

You kids are so harsh. My understanding is that genetics will determine whether you scar or not. But this stuff smells nice so you may as well smell nice if you are going to scar or not.

  • Highly NOT recommended. It is based on mineral oil and if anything some studies have pointed to being carcinogenic, and could impede the development (even cause damage to the brain of) the fetus.

The best thing to do -save for changing your genes, is to drink water, consume foods rich in fat, as for the skin use a small amount of macadamia or coconut or almond oil (although the latter has been associated with earlier labour than expected in one study from Italy).

We were talking about illogical, unsubstantiated medical pseudo-facts.

Then you gave us a new one to poke fun at.

I've been using it for years, great product, I highly recommend it
