With 2G network shutdown what phones will you recommend for a senior

My dad has a Aldi mobile prepaid SIM.

He is still using a Nokia 2760 (that he has had for close to 10 years). The 2G network has been shutdown and I have been looking at a phone for him that will work on 850, 700, 1800, 2600 MHz networks.

A flip phone is the major preference. The phone has to be easy to use and he will be a lot more happier with a physical number-pad.

Can anyone recommend me a phone?

  • not a recommendation, but I've noticed that a lot of older people get their kids old phones and are happy to use them because they have very little interest in the various apps and features we consider essential, and just enlarge everything thats left

so you'll see parents using old iPhone 4s with their tiny screens blown up to only show 4 icons per page, but theres still only 2 pages so it all works well, just looks really wrong haha

  • I've offered him my old Galaxy S4… He doesn't want it.

  • If it's calls only, for several years now, there's been a cheap Samsung ($30 or less) at WW/Coles. It's not a flip phone, but it's small - so I'm not sure why that is important. I bought a version of it several years ago and it's still going. Only thing is you can now send longer SMS with it (compared to the old one), so the memory fills up soon enough, if he doesn't delete old messages - then it sooks that the memory is full, and says it can't send, but will also lose that message. So you have to type it again after making space on the phone. They may have changed that though. Just make sure the phone has the frequency bands to suit the network he uses.
