      What a greedy corporation!

As opposed to those corporations which only care about customers and not money such as…. I'm having trouble thinking of one, help me out will you…

    • -1

baaahaha! complaining about a greedy corporation and yet, here you are buying their products, proudly part of the herd of "sheep"

  • +2

Can people explain why Apple enthusiasts are called sheep?

Who cares what products you like - whether it's for looks or function or whatever.

It's your money to do as you please and if that means buying an Apple product because of resale value, longevity of the product, build quality, then go for it.

There's plenty of very tech minded individuals who are well aware of the components used in Apple products compared to the similar products from other manufacturers knowing full well that they're paying a premium but still choose to do so.

What's sheep got to do with it?

    • +1

Because its the internet. Opinions and argument are the the order of the day.

    • +1

If you've ever driven around the outback and seen a massive queue of sheep being herded around it'd click right away

It's to do with Apple fans blindly following Apple obidiently - whether that's queuing up in a huge sheep like queue for days for a phone, paying ridiculous premiums for certain products relative to competitors, or taking Phil Schiller seriously when he says it took "courage" to ditch the 3.5mm jack on the iPhone 7.

Not everyone who likes Apple products is a sheep, just those fans that don't evaluate what Apple is saying, making or doing. They just follow.

      • +1

        That clears it up! :)

      • +1

Try going to an Apple Shop at a shopping centre during xmas time. The queue to get inside goes outside the store, and circles all the way around the upper balcony! And there's not even any promotions going on at Apple.

The amount of love and loyalty for their products is disproportionate to their quality or value. That's why people call them sheep. Not that their stuff is bad or anything, but the marketing machine they have is unbeatable.

I'm no sheep but the iPad is the best tablet from a touch perspective! Yeah it's most expensive but I've tried many Android tablets and they just aren't as good.

If there was an Android tab that was as good as the iPad and cheaper I would be all over it.

    • The hardware is nice, but I don't like the closed OS or its functionality.

I like plugging it into my PC and being able to transfer files to it, which iphone and ipad doesn't allow. You have to go through an app (like itunes), and it has to be supported media only. The fact that mkv is not natively supported, when it's the adopted standard for TV shows and movies in HD when you errmm download them from the net, really sucks. iTunes wants you to convert it to mp4 or MOV. No thanks.

But I agree with you that Android seems to have forsaken its tablets. There hasn't been any new models this year with current processors like SD820/821. Samsung's flagship is still the Tab S2 which was updated to use SD650, a mid range SoC that was also used in the budget Redmi Note 3 Pro.

But then again, Apple also didn't bother dropping new gen iPads last September. So maybe the industry collectively decided tablets were fine where they were and had nothing new to offer.

      • Tablets are dead.

There was a time when the bus and work meeting were filled with iPads. Now everyone has large phones for commuting and laptops for real work.

2-in-1 devices will be the only tablets letf within a few years.

        • The phablet is only a substitute for the 7" or maybe 8" tablet.

It is way smaller than a 10" tablet and no replacement.

Do you think Apple will make a 2-in-1?

        • @lostn:

Which is/was the biggest market for tablets. Also, this is the perfect size for media consumption on the bus/train. I have a 6" phone, my bunch of Android tablets, 8" Windows tablets and iPad collect just.

It is way smaller than a 10" tablet and no replacement

Yes, I personally use a Nexus 10 for taking notes in meetings at work. But eventually I plan on replacing it with a laptop, Chromebook or maybe 2-in-1. Like everyone else in Brisbane has seemed to have done.

Small tablets are too close to phones sizes, big tablets offer no advantages over a small laptop but have many negatives.

They are doomed. The fad is over.

Do you think Apple will make a 2-in-1?

In Apple's eyes, the iPad Pro is a 2-in-1 (which it clearly isn't, if you can only run apps and not program apps, it's not a real computer). IMO their current lack of focus on macOS and Macs proves Apple's long term plan is to kill macOS. Hopefully Tim Cook gets the boot first.

Windows Tablets are either too expensive (>$1000)

Lol. $1000 for a high-end laptop with a great warranty (Surface) that is also a tablet sounds more appealing than a $1500 MacBook and a $600 iPad.

        • @PainToad: If you are considering about getting a 2 in 1 to replace a tablet, be wary that there are reasons why people want Android on their Windows tablet (in other words why Remix OS and such are popular). Windows 10 isn't great with touch input, you can see that they try to make something that was designed with mouse and keyboard touch friendly.

I for one is thinking about getting a laptop and a small tablet even if it is more expensive (I currently own SP3). I would've made the jump long time ago if Samsung made a flagship with S pen at 8~10 inch

It is priced to compete with an ultrabook but not an iPad Air 2 or Tab S2. I would prefer one of those over an iPad Air 2 because I find it more useful, but not everyone can afford to pay double the price (its RRP is $1500 for the 4GB/128GB i5 model). You can get Lenovo ultrabooks for easily under $1k with similar or better specs to it all the time here.

Also, I've yet to see an i5 model SP4 selling for $1000. The cheapest I've seen is sub $1200. An iPad for $600 or basically half the cost of an SP4 when it's on special is always going to sell better than a $1200 2-in-1. You can't combine the cost of both a $1500 Macbook and $600 ipad and say it's more expensive. No one is going to buy both and bring both with them. They're either going to settle for one or the other because they probably don't need both.

If there was a decent Windows tablet (does not have to be 2-in-1) for $600 would be quite appealing for Windows users. Unfortunately like I said, x86 processors capable of handling Windows 10 and can fit inside a tablet's body can't be found for that price. And Atom is a piece of crap.

      • Tablet market has shrunk heaps. I think it's because the life cycle of a tablet is far longer than a phone along with what others have been saying, the rise of phablet. I do remember hearing about how businesses are having a hard time making money on tablet market, and a lot of growth in the industry recently was from low end devices (like Amazon's low end tablet).

Apple apparently is planning on releasing a bezel-less iPad without a home button next year, March.

Samsung is planning on releasing Tab S3 next year, if the rumours are correct. The project was dropped this year, and they are resurrecting it. I kinda hope for at least Exynos 8890/Snapdragon 820 with a s-pen option.

Kinda sad, to be honest. ARM tablets are better than Window ones in some areas, and I do want one that actually is decent and portable.

        • Apple apparently is planning on releasing a bezel-less iPad without a home button next year, March.

LOL. I've seen mock ups of a bezel-less phone before and called BS on it. The 4 corners were still rounded, so the screen loses its corners. Not only does that look stupid, it's not going to be easy to hold without covering up some part of the screen. I doubt Apple will do this. They seem to love their bezels because they're bigger than most, due to the size of the circular home button.

Windows Tablets are either too expensive (>$1000) or they have weak Atom processors that can't handle Windows 10. That's a problem that isn't going away any time soon. Intel has dropped the Atom line. They aren't going beyond Cherry Trail, so these cheap tablets will continue to be inadequate. And I can't imagine an i5 or Core M tablet selling in the $500-900 range which would be the sweet spot for success.

        • @lostn: Well, "bezel-less" is the marketing term Xiaomi is going for and I kinda used it without a second thought. So basically they are looking at over 90% screen to body ratio device. I would usually say that must be just stupid concept design that mean as little as someone's imagination as well. That said, I've heard that from multiple sources and Apple's rumours from multiple sources tend to be true, so I do think it has some weight to it.

Frankly speaking, I think Windows 2 in 1 devices are more like a laptop that has some functions of a tablet than a tablet. That's not what I want and that's why I do want something decent from ARM side. I don't think they could make something small with what Intel is offering. I'd think at best they'd be able to make a 10~12 inch device, from how much battery Core M uses.

  • So the oled prices are here to stay ?
