Recommend Laundry Setup (Detergents Fabric Softeners Powders and Liquids etc)

What's your cleaning setup like?

What products do you use? What works best have you found? Or what should i avoid?

I am currently using a top loader.

I think home brand stuff.

Do you guys just fabric softeners or those other liquid stuff?

Just using the powder ones for now.

Let me know what your cleaning laundry for clothes and under garments regime is like.

Cheers thanks

Most of the brands are very similar, so it's a good idea for you to try a few different ones to see what you like. Or just buy what's on sale when you need it and eventually you'll form a preference. I've never used home brand so can't comment on that.

    General tips though:

Laundry products don't go off, so only buy when they're 40-50% off, then stock up.

Colesworth has most of the big brands on a deep discount cycle so eventually the one you like will go on sale again. Keep an eye on the unit price because usually the big containers are cheaper, but not always.

I find that the recommended dose of product is usually very generous, so I only put in 2/3 of a serve for normal loads, and a full serve if it's a big load or really dirty.

Fabric softener is particularly good if you live in an area with hard water. It's good for your normal wash, particularly on t-shirts and jeans.

The most economical fabric softener is to buy the 2L bottle of Cuddly/Fluffy, and when it runs out buy the concentrate sachets (preferably on sale) to refill the bottle. I find the thicker expensive fabric softeners leave a bit of sludge in my machine dispenser but the reconstituted fluffy/cuddly is much looser so goes through easier with similar results on the clothes.

Stain remover like Napisan is good to have in the cupboard in case you get a bad stain that needs soaking, though I only use it rarely. If you play lots of sport or eat lots of curry/red wine and have lots of white clothes it will help you. Again, only buy when half price.

I use homebrand detergent and a little bit of of cleaning vinegar for fabric softener. Front loader.

Just like first comment, I only buy and try when on special. We have a smart top loader that prefers liquid detergent so I usually purchase either COLD POWER or Dynamo, their scents alone smell fresh even after a long sweaty 9-5 day (give the almond milk a go ) . Also fabric softeners are generally cheap at Chemist Warehouse, ( The weirdo I am, usually stands in the ailes opens the bottles… sniff for a favourite scent when on special.) And finally I use ALDIs stain remover (purple tub) purely because it was ranked the best in Choice Product Reviews.

  • I have a front loader. I use 2 tablespoons of white vinegar as a fabric softener, a teaspoon of a commercial detergent ( to break the water surface tension) and 2 tablespoons of carb soda. I just use generic brands for the vinegar and carb soda. The commercial powder is non perfumed as I find scented washing powder overbearing.
