Recommendations moist tasty Xmas ham

I purchased a half leg ham Woolworths brand which we used for early Xmas gathering at the weekend. But this ham was very dry so now I'm very hesitant to buy one for Xmas day which I'm taking to a family celebration. This was the butt end so I'm wondering if that's the wrong end to buy? We ate most of the ham so I wasn't interested in a refund but tried ringing customer service to alert them to this problem but they were not helpful. Told me keeping it in the fridge for a week was why it was dry. I reminded the gentleman it was not opened and had a use by date well into January. He then suggested I try a different Woolworths store as they may not cook them as much. I assume there is one supplier so once again that was of no help. I really would like a good ham for my family so would love suggestions in the Kings Park or Hills area. Thank you in anticipation.

  • Was it on bone? We usually get ham on the bone from Woolies or Coles - they've been quite nice (this is Perth though).

    Turducken

    moist

  • Are you actually cooking it? Ive bought the Coles and Woolworths equiv's and they have been good once cooked. I always remove the outer skin, boil in beer and then glaze and clove. It then goes into the oven for around 2 hours. The fat soaks into the ham and is moist as hell.

If that fails, you may need to go up to one of there premium brands. I think they have a black label etc. Failing that, butcher is best.

  • You should be keeping it in a ham bag to keep it moist

    • Every part of that sentence sounds rude lol
