Paid Remote Desktop Android App

I wanted to use my telstra credit for remote desktop app (need to work over Internet, ability to wake on lan and works with Windows and macosx), what do you think is the best android app so far?

I've been using splashtop, works great but does not accept Google payment

I've considered RDClient from Microsoft, but it does not work with Mac.

I have used logmein in the past (paid $30), but got screwed once they decided monthly payment…

  • I'm not sure if it has all of your requirements, but you can try GoToAssist - Android App. Though, it might be expensive depending on how you're using it.

      Thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately I can't subscribe GoToAssist using Google play (if it can, that would be great)

    Chrome remote desktop? Its free though…

  • I use a setup similar to what you are looking for, its all free though.

    WoL PHP script that can be logged into or access via a web link, to start machines. Can log into a Mac OS X machine via Chrome Remote Desktop and/or log into the actual PC running a VM which is running a Linux Distro Proxmox, and the the VM's are accessed via a web browser, although this does not help much on Android, the VM's are accessible over a corporate network. There are Android apps to access Proxmox via SPICE, but they are tricky and can not be guaranteed to work.

    • Wow, this is interesting!

      Never heard about Proxmox before (as predominantly I'm on Windows/Mac space and more familiar with VMWare, Parallel and VirtualBox), but this would be an interesting thing to learn.

      With the WOL PHP script, can it start Mac OSX too? are you able to share the source - yes, I know I can google it myself, but in case you have a more reliable source :)

      • Yes the PHP WoL script can start any system, as long as you are on ethernet. If you would like to use Wireless WOL you may want to research further, this is something i have not had much success with

        I also have a backup on my FritzBox router that can also startup via WoL

        PHP script: (just replace with your target MAC address)

        <?php
        $mac = 'EA:AE:AE:AE:EA:EA';
        exec("wakeonlan $mac");
        ?>

      • Also going to add, that you can install TeamViewer or Google Remote Desktop in the Proxmox VM and have remote access that way. Handy if you have a few machines lying around, also its best to use a server for the machine you want to boot via WoL as by default they are setup for WoL on powerdown. The HP microserver is a good machine that is suitable for its low cost and server features, also low power consumption, and its amazing what it can do with 16GB RAM.
