Xbox One Steering Wheel and Racing Games - Need Some Clarity!

Hey OzBargain gamer folk! Really hoping some of you can clear up a few questions I have regarding the Xbox one.

I have a family member who is a paraplegic (so no use of legs) who has been playing on a 360 for many years both locally and online. He's looking to make the move to next gen and buy an Xbox One. One of the things he does is play racing titles on the 360 with his brothers every fortnight. So my question is a 2 part question :)

A) Do most racing games (include titles if you can) allow you to change the settings so you just use the wheel? (Eg instead of accelerator pedal you use a button on the wheel)

B) What wheels are supported on the Xbox One? So far ive read that xbox 360 wheels wont work but wasn't sure if there is a well priced affordable version to use here as pedals aren't exactly needed in this situation.

I really appreciate any replies I get and help I receive, its one of the only few things he can still enjoy in life.

    yes to A

only buy an XBOX ONE wheel, suggest the Logitech g920

you could actually use the flappy paddles as the accelerator

    • Thanks for taking the time to reply tonyjzx! The only way I could have known for sure was to buy: an xbox console, a g920 and a stack of racing games then ind out the hard way.

I dont think there are loads of racing titles yet but games like Forza 6, Horizon 2 and Project cars will keep them happy for quite some time! I had recalled that the xbox 360 in a lot of cases had to use the pedals so Im very pleased to hear this!

Im keen to hear a few more responses from others too, looks like next week we'll have to buy 3 systems, 3 G920's and the games x3! My wallet hurts just thinking about it hahahaha

Unfortunately Microsoft wheels are usually expensive and the less expensive ones are usually flimsy AND non FFB which is a non starter IMO.

As far as games goes, I think Horizon 3 is the way to go for the newest experience.

Forza 6 you will find pretty hardcore if you are not already a seasoned player.

Horizon 2 is nice and cheap (good start point).

Project cars sucks on Xbox (horrible frame rate).

Source: I own all of these games and am a long time Forza person (from the original xbox days).

Be aware of hardware support issues. All wheels are mechanical devices built the cheapest way so expect some breakage.

        • it seems the majority of sites say the logitech is the way to go for any racing games so I guess thats what we will go with (not sure what FFB means though)

The guys have played racing games since the 360 came out so I'd say Forza 6 would be allright but taking your advice Ill suggest they start with Horizon 3 and work their way up.

Shame that project cars is horrible like that, I wonder how it no runs on the One S (if the frame rate is any better). Ive got it on PC and it works a treat, lots of fun to play too!

Im glad you've learned from experience with this games, my main concern was the ability to disable the pedals and just use the buttons which sounds like we shall be fine! Legend tonyjzx!

        • Force Feed Back

        • @tonyjzx: Yep, now i feel stupid haha. I love the force feedback on my G27 so definately need that on the xbox with the g920!

  • 400 for the g920 wheel+pedals+shifter+forza horizon 3… i think that's the norm. 350 for the one S console… (which upscales forza 3 too) should be a merry, albeit expensive, christmas.

    • Yeah I just started doing the numbers too . . $719 x 3 hahaha. Ouch! Glad they will be paying haha. Definitely agree, going to make sure they grab the S system, plus its future proofing really! (4k, HDR etc)
