Apple Watch series 1 in Rose Gold, was looking for a christmas gift, and I know it has been cheaper in the past in various stores (JB Hi-Fi,HN etc) but I cannot find it cheaper for the highly popular Rose Gold version.

I can't believe a watch that is 18 months old, no longer being manufactured because it's about to be replaced with series 2 still sells for $359.10 and is considered a bargain! Why not add the $299 USD apple sales brochure (book) to your shopping list and really cement your apple true believer lemming status ;)

Yep, they've changed the AP inside it to S1P. S1P compared to S1, I believe, has dual core CPU and new GPU. People say it is just S2 (the one used in Apple Watch Series 2) without GPS, but I don't know whether that is true.
That said, I do know that Series 1 is just revamped version of the original Apple Watch other than the AP from this.
Technically you are right, but this is the same watch as the original that was released 18 months ago, not the Series 2 with GPS and Second-generation OLED Retina display. Only change is some pretty new colours and an ambient light sensor.
I am sure the original Apple Watch had the ambient light sensor under the display as well?

Don't forget the dual core processor (vs single core of the original).
Not saying that this is good value, but just stating that it is an upgrade, even if it might not matter to some people.
