USB C cables - how do I know if its a safe one.

Folks there's lots of talk about USB C cable making either the phone or computer or charger fail, due to something like 56k resistor not being in the cable so a device draws too much power and fails whats plugged in.

now it has me worried. We have an LG V20, and I bought a cable from ebay as a spare - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/182178573025
they have sold over 600, store looks fine by ratings.
But how do I know the cable is OK?

Honestly without testing it yourself I don't think there's a way beyond buying from brands that have been confirmed to be compliant. I've been looking around and they're pretty expensive compared to older cables. :P

https://usbccompliant.com/ can be helpful but it's more USA focused. http://www.usb.org/kcompliance/view/USB%20Type-C%20Cable%20C… also.

I ordered some that had been tested from amazon a few days ago myself. It was more than I'd have liked to pay, but when it's between an extra ten or twenty bucks vs my $1200 phone dying… Not a hard decision.

  • Even if it's not OK it'll probably be low quality.
I bought an expensive USB cable and I think it's worth it. ($15 instead of 1)

Everything from the way the cable plugs in, to the way it bends is effected when you buy a cheap one. They just stop working, it's a waste.

    • This one looks and feels really good, nothing like a cheapy.
What USB c cable did you buy for $15. Can you link to it please.
