Telstra Family and Friend Mobile Cap Offer extended

200
TF2OFFER

As per previous mobile phone deal from Telstra. $39 for $400 text, call and data + $15/month off MRO (Most of the mobile except the cheapest one)

30c/30sec + 27c connection fee.
Big HIGHLIGHT!!! HTC DESIRE for $59 (200Mb data)
after $360 totalMRO bonus

My opinion the best will be, $39 cap + HTC Desire + $10 browsing pack (200 Mb) or $20 (500 Mb) total = $59 (200Mb) / $69 (500Mb) + unlimited Bigpond(content add more) / green site browsing data.

Compare this with Vodafone / 3 HTC Legend on $49 cap with 50Mb data and 1 min billing (90c +35c flagfall) and Telstra becomes cheap.

I got email from friends and supposed to be nation wide deal. Only until 11 July. If any of you can confirm at Tlife store (definitely valid at hobart store).

Refer to this post for more info

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/27055

also, you dont need staff id for this offer. just come around and ask saying you know this from your Telstra friend.

For a limited time from 15 June – 11 July 2010, Family and Friends of Telstra Staff, Dealers, Contractors, and Industry Partners will be eligible for the Staff Mobile Cap Plan.

$360 Mobile Repayment Option BONUS (only on 24 month MRO)

industry partners
10 services on a staff members account
No requirement to link to staff account
No requirement for staff referee validation
New Connections only

i still haven't had my previous order dispatched.

      • Go into a store guys if you can. Heard some stories where people who ordered online went into a store and they couldn't even see the order in the system.

        • Well yeah, I just went in and tried my luck today, and walked out with the Desire no questions asked. This was @ tlife "the glen".

My previous online order is screwed. I tried cancelling it over the phone today (has a proper order number and all) but they couldn't find any record of in in the telstra online store! They are having big problems with their online store it seems.

So they said just to go into the store I was getting it shipped to, and see if they can find and then cancel the order! So back I go. This was after asking in the store if I could cancel it from there and they said no.

  • and for those who don't really need any data plan (say you have access to WiFi most of the time) and you don't call that much, you can have the HTC desire for $20/month 24 mnths + $70. That's already includes $10 worth of call/sms. There is no contract, you can simply pay off the rest of the handset repayment.

    • I know I know, its bloody hard to resist that particular deal. Hmmmmm.

    • Is the Desire locked to telstra? If so is it easy to unlock?

      • +1

not locked to any network. I've tried mine using three and no problem.

        • But isn't 3 using the telstra network?

Also, did you get it delivered or did you go in-store to pick up?

(I'm assuming you aren't actually F&F of telstra too ;)

          • +1

@stumo: if u r in sydney, chatswood chase, telstra store opp apple store are OK. they didn't ask for any voucher when I joined. Apparently, no one (on whirlpool at least) has received their online order. :) As far as I know, postpaid phone are usually not locked to the network unless they'r iPhone$.

            • @megaloman: Yeah, heard the online orders have failed miserably. You're better off just going into a Telstra owned store.

              • @ShortyX: Cool, thanks for the help guys (I'd have checked the 'pool myself, but it is down again today big time!).

I've ordered online to pickup at my local tlife, so hopefully they won't give me the spanish inquisition when I go in.

  • Finally signed up to this deal today for my wife. She didn't like the HTC Desire (she thought it was too "boyish") but Telstra just released the iPhone 8G 3GS so I grabbed it for her for $10/month MRO + $82 upfront plus the plan costs obviously.

Full list of handset MROs are here (effective 15 June 2010): http://docs.google.com/fileview?id=1dEGen2vYlpX4L62BU3_klRl1…

The good thing is that there's nothing stopping you from paying extra on the bill. So effectively the Desire is 24 x $10/month = $240 + $70 upfront = $310 "outright" -> you still need to stay on the MRO plan for 2 years otherwise you won't get the $15 MRO discount if you cancel the repayment option.

    • Hmm i am pretty sure, you need to take their F&F plan and make the minimum $10/m

      so it supposed to be 24 * 20 = 480??

      • Correct, that's the minimum cost (without the upfront costs). I was referring to just the handset repayment costs.

  • just picked up the HTC desire on this plan. Its awesome. Highly recommend it. Went with the 10$ - 200meg..

browsing on NextG seems nearly twice as fast as compared to 3.

also when i tried doing it through the phone, was told they don't have any stock left and were not taking any more orders. Burwood store in Sydney had more than a dozen left last thursday.

didn't need a F&F from Telstra. told them I got it in an email. They can claim we're the sales persons friends to put the deal through. More interested in making the sale than anything else.

Also no accessories at TLife shop and only 2Gb card with unit.

    • Oh yes this is an important point. Get a data pack if you plan on using any data at all.

Because it reduces the excess data rate from $2 to $0.25 per MB, which comes out of your cap. I added the $5 pack just so I could reduce the data rate. Packs can be added/removed at any time I believe.

  • Also Bonus going on now is the three months free foxtel on Desire which I've tried and its pretty good..
    http://www.telstra.com.au/latest_offers/ultimatecombo/index.…

  • I went to the store and they did it for me. Was an easy process. And I did it when the deal first came out. So just visit the m:D

  • someone mention in whirlpool that the data is free for the 1st 60 days, is it true?

    • Nothing mentioned on the website. I certainly didn't get that.

    • I know this to be true on the staff plan.. unlimited data for the first 60 days, and $100 credit towards games, apps, ringtones, etc from the BigPond store.

Not sure if that applies to this offer, but it is always worth asking.

      • Which staff plan are you referring to?

        • The Staff Cap plan… essentially the same plan as this with regards to call & data allowances. I haven't compared the T&Cs to determine if there is any difference.

The $100 credit and free data is not something that is heavily advertised, the sales staff in the store did not know. I found the info on the intranet.

          • @h4lcyon: Cool, thanks

            • +1

@ShortyX: I just checked my contract and it was $100 for each month, for the first 2 months. So $200 worth of free stuff :)

              • @h4lcyon: your contract maybe different with mine, because mine doesn't have anything like that. what's the wording for it?

      • Deleted*

  • I was told yesterday by a JB salesman that the Telstra cap plans will be improving tomorrow (1st July) so it might pay to way and see.

    • Really? :(

    • If you are talking about the new cap plan, it has been around for a while now. http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/plans/nextg-cap-plans.html?s_kwcid=TC|6013|telstra%20cap||S||6378934153

but it is not going to be as good as this offer. Also, HTC desire is an internet friendly (very) phone, so going with Telstra Next G with this price is a good offer imho.

Just went home with my friend. He was using his iPhone on Next G to show me you tube video on basement floor in Melb CBD. That just blows me away, coz my 3 phone dont have signal at all.

FYI i have stayed with 3 for the last 5 years or so and it never cross my mind that it pales so much in comparison to Next G.

i haven't received the mobile phone since march offer, and they said they cannot find me in their system…
ordered again at the start off this offer $1 deducted of bank account, but haven't received the mobile yet..

  • Just ordered this. Had $70 taken from my CC instantly. Does that mean they legally have to provide the phone now? Doesn't taking payment accept the offer on their behalf?

Has anyone received their phone yet?

  • Does anyone know if one is required to buy a phone in order to go on this plan? It doesn't allow on the website, but I was going to go to a store in any case.

Edit: Just went to T shop at Westfield Chermside, QLD, and the guy said a delta or employee number was required for this deal, and that it was a new number only, no porting allowed.

    • Don't need to buy a phone, but why wouldn't you. You don't get MRO subsidy if you don't. Buy one and sell it on ebay fot near retail, and save yourself $360 in 24 months.

No employee number needed and porting is no problem. Was done before I walked out of the T-Life store. Deal advertised in store on the desk.

  • Signed up this arvo at Forest Hill tlife store. Took about 20 mins and my number was ported from Three. No hassles regarding employee numbers etc. Got just the plan with $10 data pack, no phone.

    I wouldn't bother trying online.

  • if i signed up online can i port my current number across from 3 when my phone finally arrives at the TLife store?? Surely I can right?!?!

My mate went and picked up his phone after doing it all online and was told at the Tlife store that he couldn't port his number… seemed a little too crazy, and that the staff person couldn't be bothered with the number port…

    • Yes, as long as you are not allocated a phone number in the process.

I rung up and did mine.
They send the sim card out and when the sim card arrives you activate it and port your number across.

  • Ordered online, received a ref no. but thats all. After many calls trying to track the order down I rang the 1800 number an started from scratch. No need to be a new customer, no staff number asked for. All done !
As stated don't bother with the online application. Also for country customers can't apply at Franchise shops (which is most of them)
    cheers

  • Hm, I went in to the Parramatta Level 3 store today and they said that if I applied for the Sim only casual contract one, then I can't get the $15/month discount on the handset should I want to get one in the future, is this true? :S

  • I signed up for one of these at Garden City (QLD) last night. Staff said it would take 10-15 mins but all up was abt 25 mins. Ported my existing TPG prepaid number which happened almost straight away. Got home opened the box and found that the phone has been used! Multiple factors, including previous client data (SMS, phonebook entries) already present on phone. Took it back this morning and spent 1hr 40 mins in the store getting it changed, as well as confirming the 24 month warranty that is now standard. No word of sorry (except as I was about to leave at the end). I have never been a Telstra customer (except to get a landline installed so I could apply for naked DSL)… have I just sold my soul? ;)

PS. anyone thinking of going to the same store to sign up should go to the kiosk upstairs (outside Woolworths) rather than the actual store on the lower level. The store seems to be always busy / understaffed, and you have to go on a waiting list to be served. Unfortunately my return could not be processed at the kiosk, which contributed to some of the 1hr 40 mins…

  • Got this today at Telstra Blacktown. Could not have been easier.. Told him what I wanted, handed him my CC and Drivers license, no other questions the whole time..not even about employment etc. Took him about 10 minutes to sort it out on the computer, signed the paper, walked away with a great phone!

    thanks!
