Dashcam Sugestions and Where to Find Them

My husband has seen too many of those ridiculous dash cam programs and has decided that he wants one too,

I am looking for an HD format one which is small enough not to be obvious and with a good image in the day. Looking at spending $120-$150.

Any feedback from owners would be great too

Thanks

Have a look here to get an idea. http://dashcamownersaus.com.au

    • Thanks. I had a look but its mostly Chinese stuff in the price range I am looking at. I guess I shouldn't be surprised :)

the A119 will actually beat really anything you find in-store for it's price range. Just look up Youtube videos

  • I found this one on Harvey Norman (through the Cash Reward website)

Navig8r 1080P Full HD GPS In-Car Crash Camera

Any one have any views on this one especially when compared to the A119 that Spackbace has suggested?

Not recommended. I had one of these Laser Navig8r dashcams briefly, and it's crap. The camera angle isn't very wide and the frame rate, especially in dark environments, is very low so there's too much motion blur. I bought one of those Chinese dashcams (Mini 0805) and it is infinitely better, despite other minor reliability issues.

    • The Navig8r is really just a cheap chinese rebrand, just sold for a very high markup in Australia. They are made by the guys who make "Laser" branded electronics, company name "LaserCo". most of their gadgets are pretty mediocre.

  • Problem is that it's gearbest, you'll either get your order late for Christmas or as in my case and many others on here not at all.

    • Yeah but there's other HK suppliers, probably not too different in pricing

  • I highly recommend the G1WC if you are after a cheap alternative. I say "cheap" because it's under $50, and its a good device for a first time dashcam owner.

The only thing it is good at is the video quality, however in terms of design it is rather noticeable (blocks your view) and the A119 (which costs twice as much) is much more compact and stealthy. Some other niggles with it… the menus are kind of hard to navigate and I still haven't worked out how to configure the correct date and time for it.

    • try the Rear view mirror based holder/clip. It wont hide the view. I use it and is good.

  • Do you want parking can as well?
I have the A119 but it's capacitive charge does allow turNing on without power connected.

Parking option let's camera run in motion detect mode when your shopping.

  • And make sure you use a good quality SD card. After a failure of SanDisk ultra, just when I needed it, I moved to Lexar 633x. Supposed to be more reliable. Search you-tube.
