Would You Call This a Bargain? (NBN by Telstra)

So NBN is now available in my area: 2768 (NSW).

I don't mind who my provider is but I've done some research and this is the price I've been offered after some negotiating. Would you call this a bargain? (The below quote is with Telstra)

  • Unlimited national, international, local, mobile etc etc Calls
  • 1 tb Data
  • Fastest NBN speed (100 mbps down and 60 mbps down or whatever it is).
  • 24 Month contract

All for $110 pm, no setup fees etc. (Including a bonus free modem).

My requirements are as above:

  • I need at least 1 tb
  • I need unlimited local and international calls including mobile (heavy user of landline)
  • I need the fastest internet

Is $110 pm a bargain price? Any other recommendations? Advice?

Thanks

im noy mentioning my repubublic as they are new and even i have not been coinnected yet but tpg offers the same thing for the same price BUT it's unlimited data and if you pay $99 it's no contract

    • Nothing wrong with MyRepublic to be honest, they have a good reputation in their home country Singapore despite being one of the smaller ISPs. TPG also started out like that and they grew to be a giant.

      • But im not going to recommend something i havent used. im still waiting a week after there release for my connection to be activated.

No, unless you get mileage out of the unlimited calls component.

You may not get any use of the fastest 100 down/40 up anyway, unless you are on FTTH (Fibre to the Home, using Fibre all the way). FTTN often isn't any faster than ADSL due to the crap quality of the copper between the Node and your house.

Exetel is $100 for the same as your Telstra quote, or $80 for 25/5: https://www.exetel.com.au/broadband/nbn

I'm sure others are similar or possibly even better.

I was with Exetel, but had some congestion issue's during peak times, so am moving to MyRepublic. I don't expect them to be much better to be honest, but it's $10 cheaper a month and with a $200 PS4 Pro discount. Hopefully they'll be faster during peak than Exetel though.

Go to Whirlpool and check out their forums to get a good idea of who seems to be decent in your area.

    Hello neighbor,

I personally went with the Optus Entertainment plus plan myself… $120 because we have an exsisting service with Optus.

Based on my short time of using it, only connected last night, there doesn't seem to be any congestions yet.

initial estimated speed from a map made by a whirlpooler

    Estimated speed by MrMac's map
    99mbps down
    40mbps up

There is also an attractive new comer called MyRepublic… not sure their reliability as they've recently joined the Aussie market but definitely the cheapest I could find.

$60 for unlimited data and fastest tier speed.

    Cheers

Use this map to check your estimate speed to see if you really need to get the highest speed tier. The speed highly depends on how far you are from the node itself.

    Grammar and spelling…

  • Well that is the cheapest Telstra price that I'm aware of.

I just signed up to exactly the same plan, including the speed boost and nbn etc, I got it for $99. I simply asked to beat Optus or I'm going with them as they have the EPL. Telstra obliged.

    • You're A legend. Thank you.

Wasn't the Optus offer, $140 per month?

How did they beat it by so much?

I can't remember exactly how much Optus was, but I made it very clear if they didn't beat it then I'd go with them. It took a little time on hold, but eventually they came back and offered $99. This includes the extra 500gb, so 1tb in total and a $20 credit each month (original price was $119, according to the rep).

I've got the paperwork somewhere, I'll take a photo and upload it when I'm up. Maybe you can use it to get them to price match.

        • Thanks so much!

I called them back agian. They agreed a price of $105 pmn!

          I'll settle for that!

          Thanks heaps :)
