They will block out external noise so you wont have to have the headphones as loud which should give a bit better sound clarity
iPods put out decent sound as long as you're willing to spend some money on good headphones and maybe a headphone amp. Adding these odd gizmos to the stock iPod earbuds is indeed the equivalent of polishing a turd.
I agree with all above - I personally can't stand Apple Earphones and tell my friends to get some better earphones but they are reluctant to switch. I don't know why - the stock Apple earphones are pretty crap.
We do however try to sell what people want and these seem to move quite quickly.
