I am looking for best value phone under $500. Prefer larger screen (5.5 inches or higher and full HD resolution) with good camera quality and performance. Recommendations appreciated.

looks powerful from the specs but hear camera quality is crappy.
Mi5s is great, but you'll need the official global edition, or know a geek that can flash you the correct rom
If you're looking under $500, then something is going to have to compromise. You're not going to get the same quality as a Google Pixel in the areas you've stated for that price.
The Xiaomi Mi5 or Mi5S would be your best bet.
plenty if you dont mind second hand (but ofcourse get one with good condition, receipt if possible, all box accessories etc)

if you lucky you can get 100% perfect condition 1-2 months old with local store receipt, box and everything, all up for $450.
plus the receipt will be showing full price ie $800 and if you go overseas soon, BOOM another $75 off. total cost $375-ish

@alz: haha you wish. ebay is like that give hope at early days but just wait until the last 30 mins they will be up very quick to $400-450 depending conditions.
edit: saw the listing. doesnt mentioned box etc. but condition is good. hopefully can give receipt.
only apple and microsoft can provide warranty without receipt as far as i know.
I like to use the very general rule of thumb that the final price of an ebay auction is often about double what it was 24 hours before the end.
@mgowen: depends on how popular is the item :) and the ending time. important!@ when ending during working hours or weekend for example, usually you get them cheaper. why? less competitors

My pick would be Asus Zenfone 3 ZE552KL. 5.5" FHD screen, 16MP f/2.0 camera. You can get it as low as ~$430 grey import.
Moto G4 plus can be had for less than $300 from time to time.
E.g. for the Ebay $100 click and collect voucher deal, I got a local one from Mobile city for $360 plus a $100 ebay voucher. I value the Ebay voucher at $85. So, in total $275 for a good mobile phone.
Problem with Moto G4 plus is the headphone jack doesn't work all the time. Seems to have connectivity issues. So only useful if you connect with wireless headphones.
If you aren't willing to compromise, up your budget by $50 and get a OnePlus 3.

Absolutely. The camera on that phone is spectacular. According to dpreview's comparison studio scenes, better than the iPhone 7 plus (a $1,000 phone).
If the 950 xl is too big and expensive (5.7", $499) then the 950 is $100 cheaper and 0.5" smaller.

I think lenovo Zuk z2 is the best phone and lenovo vibe p1 I am using for last one year and can't go wrong them both under $350. Check on GearBest website and purchase from app even cheaper.
Just check the configuration it's same as Google pixel.
