What Is So Good about The Herman Miller Aeron for It to Worth $1500 ?

I have been using the Buro Task metro chair for 3 weeks and my back is still not happy. My body shape has bit more arch than the average.

However, my work chair is awesome but they won't retail it to individuals its only bulk buy for companies.

From reviews etc.. it looks like my next option the Aeron. For that price I feel that once I sit on it I won't ever stand up.

Do you guys have any recommendation of places I can go and try these chairs? All the chairs at Office Works failed me… Thanks.

  • Have a look at the Ergohuman if you're looking for something cheaper than the Aeron. It is mainly the marketing and design which has Herman Miller sitting as a ultra premium brand thus ability to charge so much (I think Drake used an Aeron). The ergohuman is generally quite well rated on Ozbargain and other sites for being quite supportive. I got my new Ergohuman V2 today and its really supportive for my lower back. Its got a lot of adjustability to help you find a comfortable position also. Price wise its around $600. Hope that helps!

    • If you don't mind me asking. Whereabouts did you get your Ergohuman V2 from? Which model did you go for?

      • +1

I got mine from http://buydirectonline.com.au/ergohuman-chairs-v2-plus-with-…. Packaging come pretty dented and shipping took a week but other than that no issues so far. It has the headrest which for me is great when I go into free recline mode to take a short break.

Does the headrest get annoying when you're sitting up straight? Does it push into your head or neck?

        • @fredblogs: Nope! Its adjustable so you can have it up or down and also tilts :) You can also MAYBE (not actually sure) remove it if it really does bother you.

  • It's worth it for your back but still a rip off at the same time. I tried out both the Aeron and Mirra 2 at Living Edge and ended up purchasing both 2nd hand on ebay because I'm indecisive. I ended up selling the aeron as the Mirra 2 felt better for my back but was also slightly less comfy due to being stiffer. I wouldn't normally buy a 2nd hand chair but did due to them being mesh chairs.

    • I have a mirra at work and like it better than the aeron.
      But they are both similar.
When I had some back trouble I very nearly brought one for home too. Luckily my back is better so I can live with my $20 ex-office chair.

  • Note that an Aeron chair has a 12 year warranty so take this into account in your comparison of chair prices. I got mine new four years ago for < $1000 on special, so keep your eye out for these.

Have you considered a standing desk? It's not as comfortable as a chair but it will force you to change positions more often, which is better for the body.

  • I bought one second hand a few years ago. Still one of the best furniture investments I've made. I love it and think it was worth every cent.

    • Furniture investment.

        Well, it's no $80k car….

  • At that budget you might as well go for Steelcase Gesture.

    Number 1 per http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-office-chair/

    Will be cheaper than Aeron.

  • I'm a old school Ozbargainer, I sit on a milk crate.

  • Work has it, they are fully adjustable so people can't sue work for getting bad back.
    complied OHAS.
Long warranty period, good after sales service. Once in while they come and adjusted the chairs for you, maybe some sort of service plan?
So what you pay for product plus service.
I wouldn't buy for personal use, they are not a luxury chair, so don't buy it if you feeling rich, get a leather chair :)

    edit:
boardroom has this, http://www.hermanmiller.com.au/products/seating/executive-se… this chair is comfy tho, don't want to know the price ;)

  • Have one for last 5 years. I am going to get another one to replace my old crap chair. It is worth it.

    • Found anywhere cheap?

      • Nope. Unfortunately.
