Buying a New Car - Should I Use a 'broker' Like CarConnect.com.au

Hello Everyone,

CarConnect brands themselves as car concierge service, essentially I think they're a fee-for-service (charging 1% of invoiced price) broker seeking the best new car deal for purchasers.

Has anyone used their service before? What are your thoughts? Will you trust them for their advertised service with a fee or rather going out haggling yourselves?

  • How well can you haggle?

What car are you looking to buy?

    • Just wondering how negotiation works here in Australia? Every time i ring a dealer they will ask me to send a written offer! I have a price in my mind but at the same time i want to know how low they can go.

    There are free brokers.
Mind you I managed to get a better deal on my own.

  • If you're a union member, Union Shopper car broker is free as well.

I guess these guys just do the ring around for you, providing you give them the exact details.. I'm sure you would have more luck doing the work yourself, if you can't negotiate free fuel and floor mats then something is wrong.

I tried a few car brokers - managed to save over $2k doing it myself. Car brokers have a good sales pitch and are good in theory, but really not worth it.

  • Go direct and get better deal.

  • Used a broker twice. Brilliant service and saved 1000s off the best price we had on a brand new 4X4 and later a Colt Turbo Cabriolet.

Some broker are able to get Fleet Discount. Ours was.

  • Spackce..Lol I bet you had nice resale on that one!

Actually she sold it after 12 months to by a Suzuki Jimny. Got a decent price for Colt. Now she wants another Colt Turbo Cabriolet. The go like buggery but torque steer can be a handful.
