I will attempt to keep this as short and sweet as possible.
I organised to have my motorcycle transported from Western Australia to Eastern States with a well known reputable transport company. When I was handing my bike over I got the bike inspected and the inspector for the transport company advised I could also send my helmet with my bike as it was 'part of the service'.
Fast forward a few weeks and my bike arrived OK but my recently purchased Shoei NXR helmet was scratched extremely bad all over the side of the helmet and visor like someone had taken to it vigorously with sandpaper. It is absolutely disgusting to look at. The clip in breath guard is missing from the helmet as well which suggests to me that it may have been dropped to dislodge it. When I brought it up with delivery driver he denied he had anything to do with it. He said I needed to take it up with the company.
Transport company are trying to say that this is not standard business practice to take helmets with motorcycles and its not covered under insurance. I couldn't get an answer as to why if it wasn't standard practice and not covered then why was it offered to me? The claims dept have advised me that they have sent an email for advice to a state or general (I cant for the life of me remember this) manager in WA. I have sent them photos of the scratches and missing breath guard as per Shoei website.
At no point was I ever advised the helmet would not be covered. Knowing this at the time, I would have never sent it with the bike.
If they will not replace / repair the helmet. I was wondering what my options may be moving forward.
Hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. Any help appreciated.
Hadouken.
