Either a touch or paperwhite will do. The latter is basically the same as the former but just with a backlit display.
I have seen them appear in JB HiFi recently. I still have an old one that is chugging along, but if I had to buy another it would be a paperwhite
Would you consider a Kobo?
I love mine - much more open than Kindle. I bought a Kindle for my Mum as the convenience of being able to buy and download from Amazon was perfect for her.
Have a look at your local cash converters i just saw a kindle fire there for $20 in perfect working order…
Thanks its my daughters christmas present so don't think she would be very happy with second hand
I've had both Kobos and Kindles. I had a Kobo Mini, then graduated to a Kobo Glo, from there switching to a Kindle Paperwhite and upgrading to a Voyage.
Of all of these, the Paperwhite is the best value for money. It offers me the ability to read in all situations, due to the absolutely wonderful backlit display. The Voyage is great, but overpriced.
I get books from multiple sources and can easily send them to my Kindle, but I am very happy with the selection and availability of titles on the Kindle Store.
Since I started reading on an e-reader, I've managed around 80 books a year, whereas before this I spent two decades reading very little, even though I love to read. I just couldn't be bothered carrying around books with me. On my Kindle, I currently have over 800 books waiting for me.
I keep track of my reading through GoodReads, and use a folder system on the Kindle to create "to be read" and "finished" tags. It's also useful when I'm out looking at books, because I can quickly check if I've read it and forgot about it.
You may already have made your decision, but I am so very happy that I discovered the Kindle Paperwhite.
Although I chose to get a Voyage, I happily bought another Paperwhite for my daughter and donated my Paperwhite to my other daughter. I share books between them using the Kindle Family Library system, and can keep an eye on what they can and can't read. This is only available on the US store.
If they read only in the daytime then the Kindle 2016 (which is very inexpensive these days). If they are night owl and read anywhere then a Paperwhite.
Keep an eye out for Ebay coupon codes and the Officeworks website. $20 off or %off happens a few times a year. You can start collecting your 'books' (plenty of good organised lists of books out there including OzBargain). Once you get the Kindle it will automatically sync the list and then when they start reading it will download them.
They are sold on Amazon as well but you will be redirected to the American site and will have to pay in US dollars.
the most basic 2016 Kindle Touch is suitable for everybody who only needs a basic e-reader. You can buy a clip-on light accessory from pretty much anywhere if you want night reading.
