Securing a USB Drive - When Using Windows RDP

Hi guys,

I use Windows RDP at work. My USB is detected as a network drive (Z:), hence I cant run SanDisk secure access or similar programs.

Is there any way, i can password protect or encrypt my drive?

Sorry for a dumb question.

Thanks for any advice..

Have a good day

Hiding teh pronz must be a top priority!

Two solutions that I’ve used over a network share & external drive with encryption are:
-Virtual Hard Disk file (VHD) with BitLocker Encryption Link to Guide
    -Safehouse Explorer Link to Software

I’ve been using both solutions since 2012 and they’ve worked quite well without any issues. The only issue I encountered with VHD was BitLocker encryption wasn’t fully supported by Windows 7 (only supported under Win7 Ultimate/Enterprise). Windows 8/10 are fully supported though. As you intend to use this in a work environment, I’d assume they’re using an Enterprise version of Windows. If not, Safehouse Explorer would be the way to go and that too is really good (fully supported by across all Windows operating systems). I'm not sure compatibility-wise on SanDisk's secure access utility but with the above solutions, you won't be able to access encrypted files on Mac/Linux systems.

Though I'm not sure how reliable it'd be over an RDP connection, I’d assume it’d work fine as RDP treats usb drives as a network share.

  • Veracrypt may work.
