Tablet or Intel Compute stick for causal games on TV

Hi All,

Need suggestion should i go for Tablet or intel compute stick.

I'm looking to connect the device to 32 Inch TV for playing causal games with Blue tooth Keyboard and occasionally playing videos i.e mkv from offline. Basically this is for my parents and so they something which is easy to use once installed.

They already have ipad but the limitation is connecting to tv and using keyboard or mouse to play games from a distance.

So i was thinking of MI pad intially but I see in deals section NEXBOX A95X - B7N TV Box Quad core Amlogic S905X or should i go with Intel compute sticks/amazon tv sticks kind of things. I'm fine with Android or Windows OS as long as it supports & have game support using kb & mouse and for causal games (not intensive GPU needs) but should be reliable for atleast a year or two (hopefully)

Any suggestion what should i go for. I'm not looking for expensive ones as I see there is always new and prices comes down.

Thanks in advance.

  • Generally speaking, using a mouse from the couch isn't very easy… is there something I'm missing here? What kinds of games are they playing? Match-3? Card games? And why do they want to use the TV for it?

  • Nvidia Shield? It is kind of pricey though and for that amount of money you could buy a second hand desktop running Win10.

  • Intel compute stick has terrible review - basically only good for companies exhibiting at a trade show (or similar applications).

  • well with ipad or any tablet/pc/lappy near mom is having problem to her eyes which are closer. Doctor advised to use them from a distance, so she is comfortable with TV connecting these devices at a distance and operating using a mouse. I have a small table for her to keep the mouse and wish to operate the device using TV as interface.

Also I'm looking for small form factor for portability, so pc is not easy to fit in the place along with tv.

They play games like candy crush type of matching games, Basic card games, word games, easy on eye games.

I think Nvidia shield is overboard to their requirements and looking any other alternatives in economical way.

    • Your original idea of a cheap chinese android box will do. It might be worth investigating a wireless bluetooth controller to allow for the ease of playing certain arcade games, eg Tetris, Pac-man. Xiaomi sells one for 35Aud
