FWIW you can get a growlithe and slowpoke pretty early on.

So I always go with fire pokemon cause it usually makes the beginning of the game easier… But luckily since I got the game 2 days late I had read that rowlet was the better one to use. Found it strange that when usually your "rival" takes the one that would be super effective against you they didn't this time.

Popplio. I dunno why, but I've stopped choosing Fire starters since Generation II (ironically Cyndaquil is my favourite starter of all time). I was going to choose Rowlett but my brother chose that I wanted something different.
