Current Discount on Electricity Bill

I am in NSW and get a 20% pay on time discount on my combined electricity and gas bill (with AGL).
Wondering what discount others are getting. I am in the process of switching to Mojo who are about 10% cheaper for the electricity based on my usage.
Mojo told me that AGL will counter with a bigger discount that will have a 12 month duration (after which it will expire and I will have to start again ….).
If / when they do I will post it in the comments.

whoever you choose, make sure you get a discount on the daily connection fee AS WELL AS your actual usage

    • I will ask for that yes and compare.

Discounts are emotional. Comparing the final tariff is rational. Be rational.

I hooked the 26% discount from Simply Energy witth the NRMA member discount -

Not that I'm a member, but there's no cross-referencing the 'Senior Mrs S' name or address with my billing or meter location…

And yes, the final bill total is what counts. Out here in southern NSW though, the base rates are identical between every retailer anyway so the discount is pretty accurate overall.

    • 18% now :(

0% discount on Momentum Energy for me. Still works out cheaper than most others with their bull$hit 20-30% off deals. The idea of these discounts is to make it extremely difficult to compare one energy plan against another. Same with the companies that combine power and gas and send the bill monthly. The average person has no idea on how to compare energy pricing due to the deliberate confusion.

  • I am interested mainly because there is a trend towards rewarding joiners at the expense of existing customers.
I don't want to have an automatic price increase in 12 months because a discount is removed.
Rather would go with a mob that is likely to remain competitive down the track. Of course, I will compare now and again.

  • I read elsewhere when you leave AGL on a 20% discount they bump it up to 26%. You have to leave though. A threat is insufficient.

Saves you an additional 7.5% assuming it's applied across both usage and service charges.

  • I got 23% discount on usage from AGL on electricity and 16% on gas. Was 20% and 15%. Live in NSW (Ausgrid).
I realise total cost is the determining factor but AGL were always one of the cheapest for me.

    Have you checked out Powershop?

  • I am in NSW and I get 24% pay on time discount (AGL).

But you can't just go by a discount, cost per KWH and supply charge can vary greatly.

It's a pain in the arse trying to work out the cheapest provider, I use my last bill and then work out what each provider would have charged me using that bill.

    • I'll check the date next time.
