Comic Kingdom (Sydney) - 50% off All Stock except New Comics

110

Walked past the store today and saw this. Looks like lots of 2nd hand books and comics for ~ $5. Got myself some (out of print) Star Trek books so pretty happy.

It's at 71 Liverpool street, Sydney

There isn't a huge range and it's nothing like Kings Comics. Nevertheless not bad for a browse.

oh man.. looks like that trip to Sydney I was planning on doing in a couple of weeks has given me a good reason to get off my toosh and organise it.

    • Its not bad but don't get your hopes up. It feels a little bit more like a 2nd hand store. Somebody else in the forum also says they are closing down but they seem to still be around….somehow. Saying that, they have lots of old comics for $1 including X men, Fantastic Four (ugh) etc…sooooooo?

      • Been going there for 30 years. I know the store well :)

This sale is certainly part of the closing down sales.

        • That's a little sad. He seems like a nice guy…

Is that the store where you have to blow the dust of most stock? And they still sell VHS tapes?

If it is, it's a great place to hunt for some nostalgia and hard to get stuff.

    • +1

OMG. That's the one. I only saw one VHS tape when I was there.

Yes there is so much dust I broke out in eczema after. I'd suggest an anti-histamine before you walk in….

I was THIS close to getting a magazine for the making of Conan and Time Cop. THIS CLOSE. Maybe I'd just go (profanity) it and buy it. Its only like $1??

  • is there any archies?

    • I am not sure. I work pretty close can go down and have a look tomorrow lunchtime. I could probably do with the walk..

The owner owns the site - he was holding out for a buyout. The site itself is worth some fair dollars!

He wanted to sell it as a going concern - 2nd hand book-shop, but I now doubt that has come off.

He told me a month or two ago that he intends to close by the end of the year. But then he told me that around this time last year too - LOL!

    • Oh wow. The premises would be worth soooooo much money. No wonder he doesn't care about how much he sells the comics for…

      • he was talking about 7 million dollars a year ago…

I'm not sure - I reckon the site has a heritage listing on it, and it is quite narrow… - if heritage, they'd need to keep the façade.

        • Does he own the whole building! Is he single??

          Hahahaha just kidding

  • Just be aware, this sale has been going on for at least 2 months.

I went at least 2 months ago when it was 40% off everything and talking to the guy behind the counter, he was saying that anything worthwhile had been long sold at that point.

He did also say that they were hoping to get some new stock, but every time i've walked past since, it has been the same stuff in the windows

    • Yeah it looks like heaps of super old stuff. Star Trek magazines from when the show was on, sci fi magazines from when Isaac Asimov was alive. It's pretty old..

  • Well there goes the theory that the store sells rare Amazing Spiderman #1 comics and living off that.

    • You know, I have never seen the comic book shop in Big Bang theory sell anything. Maybe there aint' much $ in it?

      • If there was I would have opened a comic shop years ago. The hey day of the 90's has long gone.

Yeah. I used to buy mad magazines. Now I just buy a bigger phone and read on it…it's a little sad but hurray for technology's??

Yes in the 90's there was a Comic Kingdom in Parramatta right across the Westfields. I've still got comics from there.
Right across Parra train station was a much larger store: Phantom Zone.
