I didn't see a deal or any forum post for this and I don't know if Ali Express still has the reputation it used to. The specs seem to check out to be the newer model and I think its on sale as part of some Black Friday deal? With cashback the thing comes down to $93 which is the best price I've found so far. Is it trustworthy enough for me to pull the trigger?
Xiaomi Mi Box on Ali Express for US $75, should I trust it?

Your one is the 2015 model. OP has listed the 2016 model.
(2015 model is Android 5.0, 1GB RAM and 4GB storage, whereas, 2016 model is Android 6.0, 2GB RAM and 8GB storage).Stand corrected.
Although consider use cases before forking out the extra $.I had already looked at the one you listed and the problem is its not proper Android TV so it doesn't get Netflix in HD but the one in I linked is supposedly the newer model which does get it.
I got the 2015 model (1gb ram, 4gb storage) and I hated it. It is so slow and lags badly. Typing using the controller is also a pain in the arse. You probably would want to use a bluetooth keyboard if you think you will be doing lots of searches.
And most of the chinese apps that offer "free" tv/movies no longer work. So you work either get this for paid subscription (Netflix, Hulu) only or Kodi.
Prices will probably come down with the release of the Mi Box 3s and 3c for the Chinese market. MIUI is replaced by Patchwall that is a TV friendly tiled interface and Artifical Intelligence.
Hopefully they'll support 4K Netflix like the US/Intl' Mi Box 3.
Cheaper on eBay.
