Bricked iPhone 4s

Hi, I'm just sharing my experience, just in case it may help someone else.

I recently upgraded the iOS on my iPhone 4s - long story short - it transformed into an unattractive paper weight. After, hours on the phone with Apple; they said it was a hardware issue and basically it's an old phone and it has died.

My partner wasn't happy with that - after searching on the web he found a reference to a repair man suggesting a problem with after market battery. Yes, my partner had indeed changed the original battery, so he swapped the original battery back into the phone & we were able to update it and boot it back to life! I am now using the same phone to write this post. All's well.

As an asides, the newer battery was swapped back in and the phone works.

Hope this helps someone else.

Thanks

Weird type of sockpuppeting from LG

    • LOL nice. So subtle too.

    • Well, I've learnt a lot from Ozbargain. Flashing, rooting, boot loading, had some laughs.
I had to google sockpuppeting to get this one!!!!!
LOL I can assure that I'm not sockpuppeting ;)

  • I have a 5c (with an aftermarket battery) which gave up after an update. Might try this. Thanks.

  • I had similar issue with iPhone 5. I upgraded to iOS 10.1 and battery time reduced from 3-4 hrs to <1 hrs (in 1 day). Had long discussion with Apple staff, reset phone and all that crap. Nothing worked. All the cables stopped working. Apple was charging $130 to replace battery and $389 for refurbished iPhone 5. After given up all the hope, I ordered battery for $20 just for fun. Surprisingly after reset, the battery life gone back to 5+ hrs and all the old cables start working. Not sure what happened but it worked.
