Looking for New Laptop - Apple v ASUS v Dell

Hey Ozb peeps.

Wanting to buy new laptop.
Currently using Macbook 12 M5 512. Love the fanless design, battery life and appearance.

Want to change it up and can't decide between -

New MacBook Pro
Asus Zenbook 3 - discounted now
Dell XPS 15 9550 -discounted on 8gb model- only gripe about this is the position of ventilation bad for heat dissipation.
Dell 15 7000 - discounted $2199 to $1300

What I prefer?
Slim line for portability
Good battery life 8-10hrs
Good sound quality. dislike tinny speaker
Somewhat powerful i5 or i7 (cpu)

If there are better options in the market now please do share, as you know this time around all the manufacturers are releasing in time for Christmas.

Thanks all !

Get a 13" non-touch bar model if you want more battery life.

    • Most definitely.

  • This (almost exact) topic was discussed recently here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/273406

  • Both Dell and Apple macbook are pretty good. Just in case you do not know, Dell is having Click Frezy discount upto 40% that will finish tomorrow, so have a look. Bought Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series down from $999 to $800 today + around $40 cash back from Cashrewards website.

    • Thats what I'm personally gearing towards, would you recommend XPS 15 or Inspiron 7000?

Yeah that's why I'm keen, click frenzy.

I am notorious for running a crazy amount of web tabs in one go for work.

I'll be honest , I use my laptop in my room in the bed doona under the unit , I'm concerned about the position of the Dell XPS ventilation fans …

  • True, should put your safety first, also 2-in-1 laptop is popular recently. Then perhaps Inspiron 7000? However, it seems like the 15.6" for Inspiron 7000 is not available for purchase on Dell Australia. Maybe I am wrong?

    • It is available for purchase in oz , it's on their website. Dell XPS 15 or Lenovo carbon gen 4?

      • Saw it, my bad.
        this one, isn't it?

        Good deal!

Do you believe 8gb ram is sufficient? I do run a lot of tabs…a lot.

        • @jnathanc: personally, I think it should be okay. I am a uni student, and when doing assignments, I usually open about 15 tabs, and my current macbook pro (mid 2012 with 4gb RAM) still runs fine. Unless you are gamer, or designer, 8gb Ram is considerably sufficient.

  • LENOVO

    • Reasons why

      • The ones that you chose, Apple and DELL and ASUS just simply aren't on sale too often, you will see plenty of Lenovo deals around here so you should have a look, you won't regret it.
