they use different panels, dell's is far superior than LG's

    • +1

      lol comparing a bmw(IPS) to a toyota(TN).

    • Wow, you really seem to want to push this cheaper, TN panel LG vs this IPS? Don't think anyone who knows their screens would actually agree with you.

  • +3

Just incase anyone thinks the deals a mistake.

    Read http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1320136&p…

Whiteevo6 (thats me) organised it with Scott the Display manager from Dell, bloody awesome price for this screen if you ask me. Thanks Scott

    • Thanks for organising the coupon!

  • Does this have much better PQ than say….a panasonic plasma or a 32" Samsung LCD?

I know the extra resolution will be great for PCs but what about normal content? ie. Game consoles?

    • You won't see much difference from Console games due to the resolution from the console. IPS will have better picture quality absolutely vs a Plasma imo. Ghosting is not a problem with these Dell panels (at least for me). The dell is pretty low latency but if you are just after a monitor for game consoles its a bit overkill imo.

      • Ah, what I meant was: Since consoles are 720P/1080P anyway, will it look better on a 1080P screen than this 27" because the dell's native res is not 1080P.

What about the Dell vs other big LCD manufacturers? AFAIK they all use their own type of IPS for the TVs?

        • IRC, upscaling shouldn't affect the PQ (especially at distance) all that much and reviews seem to support this.

  • +1

Should've combined the other 24" deal with this one.

  • Very nice deal. In for one. Thanks OP.

  • just got it, thanks gerrard!

i checked dell.com (US) and its going for 999USD… so they'd need at least a 40% voucher to bring it down to this price. for once we're getting a good deal in comparison.

  • +1

Can we get a good deal on the 30"

    • I've just put in an order on the 30" as the coupon seems to work for it also. Final price is $1,359.30.

  • Guys

I am pretty sure 99% sure infact you will get knocked back for $679. If this is the case please dont turn on Dell especially after the great deal they have done.

I am sure you will get offered $799 as thats the final price

I am all for a bargain and if you get it for $679 congrats but if it fails lets not arrange an angry mob

It was made clear to forum members at OCAU and WP that coupons would not be accepted on this deal. The use of them is clearly a mistake consider the unit is already discounted.

    • +2

It is a great price at $799. But Dell need to get their act together. If I can successfully apply the coupon then they should honor it. It doesn't take much effort to state discount coupons aren't applicable on the web page and not apply them for this particular product.

      • Agreed, but lets be honest mistakes happen(Dell seems to have a higher ratio however)…anyway they obviously need to fire the web team or at least give them eletric shock treatment each time they screwup but I doubt its going to happen. :)

In the end everyones been warned early so it doesnt get out of control like previous mistakes. Scotts team is working on the error and it will be fixed soon enough.

  • great deal i agree, I was sorely tempted…but then i found out you need 2 beastly graphics cards to run it at full resolution….

    Maybe next year. :P

  • This is a sick deal. Do want!

  • This coupon seems to work on the 30" monitor also…

  • I have an older 27" - 2707 WFP

I love it, it is native 1920x1200. Brushed aluminimum finish. 3 years old

This new dell has much higher resolution but isn't brushed aluminium. Should I pull the trigger on a new one??

Or should I go for the 30" which is older but is brushed aluminium?

If the 30" was a new version I would definitely grab that…

    • The 30" is the 3008WFP revision which is the latest version. I have the 3007WFP-HC at home which has the brushed aluminium base; the 3008WFP is more 'plastic-y' from what I can see.

  • Agreed. $679 would be fantastic, but $800 is still a damn good deal. Also agreed that if coupons aren't applicable, don't let them be applied. Causes confusion and leaves a bad taste in customers mouths even though they are still getting a good deal.

  • Might be best if the OP removes the coupon code and changes the price to $799 to stop any future buying errors.

  • Just ordered two of these beasts.

These will replace my two aging but still awesome Dell 2405FPW's.

  • That's a tremendous price, I paid $890 each for two of these a few months back

  • Great combo of discounts and I really want one of these, but dont really need one.
I must be ill, thinking before purchasing.

  • Response Time is 6 ms. I think this will lag with Xbox 360. Need at least 2ms. Anyone want to confirm this????? So cheap man…

    • Most reviews haven't reported any Ghosting. The actual latency for this monitor is very very good apparently.

    • I had a read of a number of threads and reviews and its a mixed bag of answers on that. 50/50. If you watch the CNET review they say no lag even at max resolution where as another review site said gamers may notice a "slight" lag. There is a video on Youtube where a bloke that owns one does a lag test in a number of games and it look pretty smooth to me.

Here is the video, judge for yourself

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3faC2ur3Qq0

From memory he changes it from 720P to 1080P and switches the connections on various connections, HDMI, DVI etc.

  • Thanks for the reply guys - much appreciated, I will check it out later. I'm on my mobile ATM.

I want to use this to play Super Street Fighter 4. This game very lag-sensitive. I'm scared! Anywhere I can test this monitor out irl? I want to take a xbox 360 to test it….

  • I really want to know whether this is the real price or not.
And if not, what would happen?
They just refund you and that's it?

    • The Dell rep has already said this offer was not suppose to allow other coupons to be used. So, its not real and I think has a high chance of not being honored. You can always try though. Worse is a refund.

      • I just did… Hope they don't refund it!!

Have they done this in the past? Refund people due to their coupons not working correctly?

        • For pricing errors, yep, heaps of times. Hence the animosity towards Dell on forums. Coupons, not really sure, but I think this will be classified as pricing error.

          • @zhenjie: Can confirm that this deal works on the 27" and 30" monitors, just received the following for a 3008WFP:

Confirmation of your recent Dell order is attached.

Your Estimated Delivery Date for this order is on or before 09/07/2010

    • The price $799 is real it is not a mistake the $679 price is a mistake it was not supposed to allow coupon discounts off the reduced special of $799 that Scott from Dell arranged. I would save yourself the hassle and just buy it at the $799 price its still an outstanding price considering the screen was $1200 yesterday or $1019 with a coupon discount or if you found a desperate rep you could a month or so back get it down to $850-900, $799 is a bargain.

  • A dumb question:
Can I use this to watch TV?

    cheers

    • Theres no tuner, so you'll need a set top box with the correct outputs (like HDMI pref)

    • In addition to what zhenjie has said, and at the risk of pointing out the obvious, there is no remote to turn the monitor on or off.

      • Thanks

        I won't need a remote.
I want to watch tv in a window while doing other things e.g. browsing since the monitor is quite big.

        cheers

        • In that case you just get a Digital TV tuner for your PC and any monitor can do that.

  • so if I buy this can i get a refund if it turns out to be an error?

    • If its like previous deals that they have made an error with the coupon they dont even process your credit card transaction and just email you saying it was an error. Its not until you get an order accepted email that they actually process the credit card transaction. If you do a DD they will refund the cash.

This is how its been in the past with other offers. However the price of $799 is real so if you are happy with that price then its a done deal, the price of $679 is still up in the air as to if it will be accepted.

I just received my "order received" and "order acknowledged" emails from Dell, just waiting on the money being taken. The money has gone off my credit card but thats just floating in limbo until the merchant confirms the price is accepted then they send the final email saying its a done deal.

      hope that helps.

          Is this from experience?

        • wow that just made the deal [—————— ] this much naughtier lol

  • zomg!

  • Guys that coupon can be used for so many organisations.

Its same coupon for NRMA, RACV, RACQ, HCF, Virgin and many other institutions so it is very rare that order will get turned down or cancelled :)

  • This is confirmation of your recent Dell order.
Your Estimated Delivery Date for this order is on or before 27/07/2010

Ordered at around 8:00am this morning.

  • Flogin gobblies just got confirmation too!! Thanks op.

Looks like dell is finally putting out, first with the mouse, now with all the ips screens….

Cant wait to see what 3.7mp of adobeRGB looks like on a screen.

  • The coupon isn't letting me get the low $679 price :s Can anyone help?

    • try 7ZHJ4L6DX34G35

      • This worked perfectly, I was getting quite anxious that I would miss the deal.

        Thanks a lot :)

  • anyone experience using this monitor from laptop display output?

    thanks

    • You'd just want to make sure it can handle its high native resolution for best impact.

  • Just ordered one! Have been on the lookout for a quality 27" for some time :D

  • u cant complain about these prices…i got 2 about 2 months ago for 900 each and i as happy with that.
799 or 679 with no haggling is pretty bloody good
    great monitors by the way

  • Im very fussy with preferring the 16:10 aspect ratio. I really don't like 16:9 within smaller monitors.. like 24" and below.
The Acer 27" was the first 16:9 that I kind of thought was okay.

Would I be disappointed with I get two of these and given my 16:10 preference? its a bit hard to judge from pictures online if its very wide and short height.

Just wondering if any other 16:10 lovers were disappointed by this monitor?

    • i replaced the earlier 27" model from dell with these two
the older ones were 16:10 and i admit it took a bit to get used to 16:9
but the monitors are great and picture quality is brilliant.
Been 27" and a huge resolution you soon get used to it

  • The 27" have no speakers, right?

I already have a 27" Viewsonic that doesn't get used much ATM but I couldn't pass up this Dell deal/error.

  • @bbourizk thanks for your input.. I am coming from an old HP 21" CRT that hasn't missed a beat. Still thinking if I should make the leap and if its something that I will get use too as well. hmm!

  • $339.66 after education tax refund! yeah!!!!

    • Will your tax invoice give a date before eofy? Coz Dell issue invoices like 2 weeks after delivery….

      • …that really sucks. -_-"

      • My email invoice stated 25/06/2010 - before the EOFY ;)

        • Order Acknowledge isn't a Tax invoice though. But I'm going to see if my accountant says its acceptable or not. Worse comes to worse, just deduct for next year.

          • @zhenjie: You should also get an Order Confirmation PDF emailed to you.
That would be the closest Dell will get to a Tax Invoice until they send you out the monitor ;)

  • neither of the coupon codes are working….
It's giving me a coupon error:
"We're sorry, the coupon code you have entered has already expired or has reached the maximum redemption limit."
are there any tricks to entering the coupon codes?

    • Same here :(

      • Use this coupon LSSJMT7WKCXVV5

Will work in the Small Business section only not in Home Sales.

        • NICE!!! Thanks mate! Still works :D!

  • Everything went fine with ordering and got a Dell Order Acknowledgement email at $679. But I now have Dell Order Confirmation email which comes to a total of $999. Is this a mistake or one of their new dirty tatics? Anyone here ever come across this yet? Their office is now closed, guess I have to give them a call on Monday to find out what's going on.

    • you better hope that it ain't their usual bait & switch

  • I got my payment confirmation e-mail for $679. I ordered around 2pm too.

  • Wowsers.. It really doesn't work anymore for the 'Home' section.
It still works for the 'Small and medium business' though.

How would they know or confirm that you run a small business?
Has anyone purchased via this method and care to comment?

    • +1

I don't think they particularly care if you're a small business or not, but just in case, I put my company address as the delivery address.

  • my last 2 were bought through the small business section and they don't care (thought I did order it to work delivery address)

but before worrying about delivery let's just see on Monday if they honour the $679 deal or not and if they do how many weeks will it take for delivery as many people have put an order through with a lot of those ordering multiple screens…

    • You mean to say getting that confirmation email is not enough?
They can still reject your purchase?
Then until when are you 'safe'?

      • Its a completed transaction once you have gotten 3 emails and a delivery date and the money is gone from your account

        • Which three emails to be exact? The money has been deducted and I've received an email about the delivery date, also 26/7 (if only I bought it at 4:12 am like some people…).

Is there anything else I need to have a peace of mind?

          • +1

@leonheart1: You should get the first email straight away, thats an email to say the order was received, the next takes a while thats order acknowledgement, the last is order confirmed and that has your delivery date on it. Peace of mind will take a few days until it shows up in the tracking systemn and you can track it. :)

  • Your Estimated Delivery Date for this order is on or before 26/07/2010

:( such a long time to wait

edit: anyone know how accurate the delivery date would be?

    • Not at all according to users from whirlpool.

It can take from 2 days to.. 2 months.

But the average seems to be around 7-10 days.

There were a lot of people ordering this monitor though so I'm guessing that might delay things.

    • +1

When I was speaking to Scott at Dell to arrange all this I said the numbers at Whirlpool and Overclockers numbered around 50 orders, he took that 50 and put a zero on the end and said thats whats available in Sydney as stock so depending on how well the orders went yesterday depends on how long a wait some of the people that ordered late will have.

      Hope that helps.

  • Can someone confirm that if I place an order before the 30th it will count for this financial year. As if I was to buy it would be under the Education Tax Refund.

  • Neither of the coupons work… Looks like no 27" monitor for me :(

    • Smb section.

      • Yeah tried it there too, doesn't work anymore :(

        • No luck here either

  • I wonder if Buckscoop or Moneyback co cashback works with this. Cause that would thenput things back into plausibilty for me after the education tax refund.

    • I tried moneybackco, it's appeared in my account ex GST. hoping it will get confirmed.

  • i got one sitting in a cart guys for $679, anyway I can transfer the cart to you?

EDIT I just got this code to work in the Small business area, try it LSSJMT7WKCXVV5
