Optus iPhone price drop starts tomorrow

137

Hi, not sure if I'm allowed to post this, but I can confirm that Optus will be reducing the prices of its iPhone plans starting tomorrow.

iPhone 3GS 16 gb will be FREE on the $59 iPhone cap.
iPhone 3GS 32 gb will be FREE on the $79 iPhone cap.

PLUS both plans will come with $10 credit for the first 12 months (essentially $120 off minimum spend).

Apparently iPhone business plans (like the Timeless Max) will also receive $120 credit - but will need to confirm this.

Not as good as the Virgin deal (which incidentally went up to $45 - too much demand?) but for those who prefer Optus it is still pretty good.

  • awesomes, definitely be signing up, maybe to the targetcentre store coz they have friendly staff

  • +2

for a 79/mth plan, you'll probably get the 4th gen for free around release, right?

    • One would suppose so…

If not optus, other carriers should

    • My partner has had a 3G since Aug '08 and signed up for the $79 plan paying $2 a month handset fee for a white 16gb, hence I'm not sure if anything has changed since then!?

    • doubt it. at the moment for the 3GS only the 16 gb is free on $79 plan and it's been a year since release. plus there's major delays in the 4G arriving in australia so don't expect to get your hands on one before september… they can't even fulfil american demand for 4G at the moment lol

      • does't matter how short america is, apple has given a quota to australia for July release.

you dont have to be lucky to get one in July. just well prepared to ring telcos visit store asap.

        • Hopefully, but I'd wait and see. They already delayed the iPad launch this year due to shortages weeks out from release and with no firm date set for Australia who knows what'll happen.

          Sure we'll be ok but.

          • @Smigit:

            1. the people who preordered during the first two days, received their's on release day

            2. the people who wanted to buy in store, got their's on release day or day two

there was stock enough to last those who planned to get it.

the iphone may be worse, but i think apple will promise enough stock for at least day one, like they did with the ipad.

  • yeah 16gb shud be free, 32 shud be another 10bux, having said that 3 should always be cheaper, althought internet connection is horrible and slow

    • That's odd. I have 3 and my mobile internet is more stable and faster than my friend's Optus. We live in the Melbourne city area..

      • my gf lives in the city near crown and she half the time she has no voice call reception, hardly ever data (when it doesnt say roaming). in part of melb uni 3's always on data roaming. same in north melb area hardly any reception. for me, 3 is my regret. shudve stayed with optus

        • depends a lot on your mobile as well. reception drops for a few of my friends. but melb uni seems to be fine with data. med building side anyway.

  • Can't see much bargain on these deals.

  • yep, not much of a bargain. Will wait until the iphone 4 hit the shelves then we will see some more drop in prices for these 3gs phone.

    Come on Nexus One :(

  • +4

not really a bargain, iirc they've been around this price on most carriers almost since release date.

  • +6

compared to Virgin this deal is pretty average…..

  • +4

how is this a bargain? seems like their normal prices

  • +1

Not a bargain. Credits aren't worth their stated dollar value because they can only be spent at Optus on inflated flag-fall and per-minute charges.

In reality you're paying $1896 for a phone plus 24 months of Optus network access. The phone's only $700 so that's nearly $1200 for network access. Too expensive.

This is not a bargain, like others have said other carriers have had better plans since day 1. Vodafone has had a $79 plan with no handset repayments on the 32GB 3GS for a very long time. Optus is out of touch with current plans even Telstra is catching up.

  • I got a 16gb 3GS for 0$ / month over 12 months ago on the 79$ cap, nothing special …

  • can NOT say it as a bargain

  • Not a bargain, other carriers such as 3 and vodafone have it at the same price.
